Hosea Crittenden just nips out Dusty Rychart as my favorite...he captivated the student section and whenever he got in the game it always meant the Gophers were up big. Would be cool to put together an all-time all walk-on team.

The game-worn Crittenden jersey in my closet will speak for me.

Definitely Dusty. My mom's from GR, so I was very excited when he showed up, and then he turned out to be good. But Hosea's a close second. We've had some other good walkons, like Brent Lawson (I believe), Travis Busch, the dude who went to Harvard, and etc, but I've always had a soft spot for the Wade Hokensons and Justin Lorangs, dudes who sat at the end of the bench for four years and didn't get in until the game was out of reach. Halverson and Kendall Shell are definitely throwbacks, though hopefully they turn out to be in the former group, rather than the latter.

Zach Puchtel is up there for me. The Gophers started 0-6 that season until Monson inserted Zach into the starting lineup to send a message. We racked up some decent wins after that, including Indiana and Iowa who were both ranked in the top 15 if I remember correctly.

Has to be Dusty. His double-double performance in the Gonzaga game right after Gangelgate broke was inspired. Won me over (and many others I'm sure) right then and there. Took his opportunity and grabbed it by the horns.

The Stanford twins were not without their charm though.

It is Dominique Dawson because he walked on from Minneapolis Southwest of all places. He did a very good job at Kentucky Wesleyan College this year too.

Definitely Dusty. He was by far better than most walk ons will ever dream to be.

I liked Hosea like all the other students did back then, and got the opportunity to become friends with him, as he lived right down the hall from me in Centennial. But Hosea was simply not a Big Ten level basketball player - no where near. I remember playing pickup against him at the Rec I stole the ball from him 3 straight times for layups. I'm not a slouch ball player, but I also played pickup against Sam Jacobson and it was no-contest - I couldn't touch the ball, much less say steal it from Sam.

Hosea did indeed capture the student section, but a guy like Dusty truly made a huge difference on the team; I'm a fan of success, not just rah-rah. Dusty is easily my favorite Gopher walk-on.
