Jones took a year off. Suffered a concussion and had migraine problems causing a guy to miss parts of fall camp, the most important part of the entire season. He'll be just fine if he continues to practice. Do you think he was ever asked to block a day in his life, that could be part of it.

The staff is completely botching the Jeff Jones deal and he'll transfer by the end of the season, just watch. When you go out and get he #5 RB in the entire country just keep him there and develop him, damn does he looked pissed sitting on the sidelines as a WR. I'd be out.

I bet he'll transfer to play with the Heisman candidate running the show in Mankato. Can't resist the urge to play with the undisputed best QB in the state, right?

Isn't it funny how many of us can believe the staff is botching the Jeff Jones deal but when it comes to QB the staff couldn't possibly be botching that up? I for one believe that we have a shortcoming as a staff on the offensive side of the ball. Doesn't mean I don't love the Gophers. I live for game day and support the team wholeheartedly. Just wish they'd revamp the offense.

You could very well be right. The thing is we don't know what is going on for sure. We're speculating. I think that is the point some are trying to get across.

I'm pretty sure Jones ends up a RB. We're just doing what whiskey has been doing and having a feature back & then putting the "heir apparent" on the field, running jet sweeps, motioning into the backfield, bubble screens, etc... Then when they are ready & a complete back(can pick up blitzes, read defences), they move behind the QB. Of course if Smith is also a rs frosh. So maybe Jones becomes our Percy Harvin type(schematic wise, not attitude wise. Lol). Either way, it's waaay to early to jump to any conclusions on Jones. Let's just be happy that Smith looks like he could be a special player.

If Jeff Jones was irritated by standing on the sidelines during the game there is one thing he can do about it out work other guys in practice. Practice harder, block harder and do more than the other guys do in practice. With this staff the only way you get on the football field is proving you will do everything that is asked, go to class, work out and in practice know the protections, block people, catch the ball, out work your competition. Cobb was the best back for 2 + years before he played because well injury and the light bulb went off that he needed to block and pick up blitzes and all of that stuff.
Just because you were great in HS or an All Star game is pretty meaningless at this point in time.
Kid has talent, he wants to play there is an easy way to do that, out work, out hustle and out compete the competition to get on the field. This staff doesn't hold anyone back they think can help the team win. The same for Berkely Edwards he can see the field too, if he outperforms in practice, Cobb realized it hopefully the light bulb will go off for these guys too. One thing you as an individual can control is your attitude and effort, if your sour and believe your getting shorted prove it by being motivated to do more and make yourself stand out. You have a good attitude and put forth great effort it shows in how you practice and you will play.
Don't understand why people are down on Nugget, hope the coaches are not, the way Williams was flipped up in the air the guys was covering up the football with two hands, he tried to protect the ball, the TCU guy just put a fantastic hit on the football and they got rewarded for it because the TCU kid made a play. Most if not all running backs would fumble in that situation, you do not have your body or other areas to help protect the football when your spun out of control like that.

After last night the easy answer to this poll is Smith (I voted for him as well). Based on one game it is way to soon to anoint him as the heir apparent to Cobb but I would certainly give him every opportunity to prove he is the guy. Saw more out of him in one game then I have out of Williams since he got here. I really don't understand the love some have for Williams as to me I have never seen him as anything more then a change of pace/short yardage guy. He has never struck me as a feature back.

Tough to say how things will play out with Jones but wouldn't jump to conclusions just yet based on one game. He may or may not pan out but only time will tell on that one.

Rodney Smith looked very promising...good vision... able to make the quick cuts at the line that Roderick seemingly cannot...
Of course we have not seen Jones or Shannon Brooks yet either.

Williams actually had a nice drive leading up to that fumble, it's way too early to give up on him. I did like what I saw from Smith though, he's got nice vision. Coming off a concussion, Jones should be happy to be at WR where he won't take the same beating, hopefully they can incorporate him more into the offense from that WR spot.

They'll still be split to start the game in my opinion. Then they'll ride the hot hand if someone stands out more than the other. My guess is it will be rare for anyone of them to have more than 20 carries in a game.

And it seems they prefer it that way. It's how they did it most of the time at N. Illinois. Cobb was just so much better than anyone else the last two years.

I think the fan base needs to have a little patience with Rodrick. He didn't have a good game, but he will be an important weapon this season.

If Kill really intents to play the F Brooks, I am looking forward to that. I'd also like to see Jones show us what he can do at some point.

It is possible that one of those two or Smith could bust out in the next few games against lesser defenses. It is also likely that R. Williams will put up big numbers in these next few games as well. Regardless we should see a lot of rushing yards over the course of the next three weeks, especially if Campion returns and the passing threat becomes credible.

I am concerned that none of the FS F receivers did anything, but there are only 11 allowed on the field, and there was not much room for error or experimenting vs. TCU, so the coaches went with what they had confidence in based upon practice. I had hoped to see at least Holland make an impression, but Carter and #88 seemed to have the inside edge on PT.

I would like to see Smith Jones and Nugget all see action

Williams gave up a fumble and really got nothing going on Thursday. I would say give him one more shot. But after that, put him in only as relief or garbage time. Harsh, but Smith looked so much better.
