DNP/Garbage Time: Bostick and Busch

This is just one person's projection, but the bottom line is that we aren't losing much and adding some players. I'm looking for a big impact when this year's freshman become sophomores. Royce will be a killer to Westbrook and Hoffarber because there might not be much time for 3 guards on the floor. Mbwake will hurt Carter. Cobbs should allow Joseph more time at the 2.

I see Carter, Hoffarber, Westbrook, Bostick, and Busch with smaller roles next year. Could be even more dramatic if Tubby settles more with an 8-9 player rotation.

A lot of folks are predicting the Fr will come in and play huge minutes over some SR's. I dont see it.

Mbakwe will be a Jr. He'll see 20 minutes PT.

White is a stud Fr. He'll see 20 minutes PT.

That gives the Gophers 2 PF where they have 0 now.

Williams is a stud Fr too. But his PT (at WF) will be 10 or 15 minutes.

Cobbs is a solid Fr PG. He'll see 5 or 10 minutes PT.

So who will lost thir PT?

White may be good - he better be real good, based on the hype here.

C - Iverson and Sampson will see the same amount of PT, but one will start and one won't
PF - White=Carter
SF - DJ>Williams
SG - Westbrook=Hoff>Bostick
PG - Nolen=Devoe>Cobbs

Of course all this is moot because we don't know who will step up and improve from this year or become a leader and if the freshmen will make a good transition to the college game where they aren't the dominant force and constantly see players as good or better than them. We all know preseason isn't a good indicator of PT, I thought this year was more of a team building and/or break-in period for freshmen. Also it all depends on team match-ups. It will never ever be the same.

Also, it will be game by game because we all know Tubby cycles players until something is working or someone gets hot. So I just realized how pointless predicting PT is.

I sure hope White and Mbwake can take some PT away from our current cast because we scored 41 pts the other night and have been brutal throughout most of the conference season.

You must see another anemic offensive season if you see Carter, Hoffarber, Westbrook holding off next year's sophomore and freshman classes and not losing any of their current minutes. If that's the case, we are in for another tough season because the Big Ten is getting better and we won't be any better.

So who will lost thir PT?
Bostick, Carter, Busch, Westbrook, Hoffarber will lose PT.

Do you see true Fr scoring 14-18 a game?

I could see Royce White getting us 10-14, Joseph 10-14, Johnson 10, Sampson 8-12. More importantly, I can see those players being able to score in a half court offense.

Do you see Hoffarber or Carter scoring in double figures? Do you see Westbrook being a better player than Joseph next year?

You left out Mbakwe. He'll get plenty of PT at PF.

PF will be Mbakwe or White. Whomever played PF this year will lose PT.

Carter and DJ. DJ should be able to slide to the wing and White should be able to play some 3 too. In that case Carter, Westbrook, Busch, and Hoffarber will lose PT. I don't think Johnson will lose more than 5 mins a game. He and White should be able to play 3 or 4.

I agree. This year is a heart and reality check for a young team and a learning year.

first of all, this year is not over! Also, who is to say how the team will respond to post season play. A lot of no ideas out there.

Personally I see this as a growth year and an introduction to major college demands. I expect many of the players to improve next year. To determine now who will get playing time next year is at absolute best premature to go along with failing to appreciate that Tubby knows a whole lot more about BB and the team he coaches than any here.

What is clear is that we'll have a full roster where it could be argued that any one of them (almost) could/should be a starter. We'll be even deeper than this year and we are one of the deepest in the country. the difference is we'll be swapping experience for talent. It's double edged...initially, monster later.

I think we're over looking a couple of things. Tubby likes ralph in more of a PF role, granted he'll pick up most of his minutes in the post, but I think the future might prove that Iverson gains minutes and is the starting Center. We all seem to assume he rides the bench. Knowing how big men improve, and thinking Iverson is a true B10 post, I see him as the future. He will get stronger, he will improve his foot work, and he will get more aggressive. iverson will be first or second team B10 as a junior, what the sophmore segwey looks like is a question. We'll probaly see some of the guys we think are going to gobble up PF minutes getting more minutes at the 3. the crunch won't be at the 4 it'll end up all the way at the SG and SF spots. We have the chance to be very big and vey athletic, I expect Tubby to try to exploit that before he has the best talent riding the bench.

The other thing is that carter is still finding his role, but even in limited minutes has proven to be a monster on the offensive glass. As a scorer he hasn't put up the numbers but the talent is there, he just needs to adjust to the more athletic bigs. So, we might be shoving him out of the way a bit prematurely.

What I like besides the depth, is that there are going to be some real fights for minutes. i like that the freshmen are going to have to earn it and not win it by default like this year.

Also have to factor in younger players who will step up.

Devoe has looked very good playing the 2 lately. With Cobbs coming in, he won't have to back up Nolen at PG and can be a SG primarily. That, combined with DJ probably playing a lot more 3 (Mbakwe and White will get time at 4 whether its a lot or a little) will mean that Hoff and Bostick and probably Westbrook will see less time. This is assuming Devoe continues his improvement, of course.
