I love Minnesota!
I went out for a 10-mile run this morning and, from my front door in Minneapolis, I ran past two beautiful lakes (Nokomis and Hiawatha), Minnehaha Creek, Minnehaha Falls (the 2nd highest urban waterfall in America after Niagara), across the Mississippi River and past another waterfall (Hidden Falls). Where else in America?
This is just one example.
I absolutely LOVE Minnesota and I regularly thank God for letting me live here.
I am not trying to convince anyone else. I'm just publicly proclaiming my love.
I can't say whether I'd love living in Iowa, but I seriously doubt it. If the people that live there love it - great for them; I hope they do.
People might say that my love for Minnesota is because everyone loves what they know. I have lived in Minnesota for a grand total of 16 years. But I lived in Colorado for 11 years, in Kentucky for 7 years, in Indiana for 5 years and in Missouri (or as I like to call it Misery) for 6 long months. So I do have some basis of comparison. None of these comes close.
I've seen Iowans post on this board that much of southern Minnesota is just like Iowa. They miss the point. That is part of why Minnesota is so great - the diversity of the landscape. We have boreal coniferous forests, we have mixed hardwood forests, we have cropland, we have natural prairie, we have lake country, we have large and cosmopolitan urban areas, we have small towns....
We also have an incredible diversity of people... racially, ethnically, spiritually, etc.
We also have an incredible wealth of cultural resources and entertainment options.
