Depends on how you define "worse", but I think football. That's a total train wreck, and we're going to finish at the bottom of the conference. Attendance is not only going down in the second year of a brand-new stadium, but wait until the crowd at the Iowa game shows up. It ain't going to be pretty with all of those Iowa people in the stands. Didn't want to, but I've also become convinced all of that talent Brewster brought in is pretty much an illusion. Facing 50 years of mediocrity and looking at playing Wisconsin, Iowa, and Nebraska every year (not to mention Michigan if they come back), looks like a real job.
Having said that, I just got home from the hockey game and was totally disgusted. Their first three goals came after Wisconsin won battles along the boards. Then we just caved letting them dominate us. We had nobody really battling to get to the front of the net. Top three recruiting classes don't do you much good if the very best players leave after one or two years. and if they consist of a lot of under-sized players. Aaron Ness was a great high school player, but you hardly notice him now because he's too small to be an elite WCHA defenseman. We're still going to probably finish about in the middle of the conference, and you still can get this program back to the top in a very short time which is why I think football is "worse".
But after sitting through the Ohio State game and after watching the hockey team tonight, all I can say is, "Thank God for Tubby."
