Wisconsin has Russell Wilson.
Marshall has Randy Moss.

But who is the best transfer to ever don the Maroon and Gold?

St. Juste is Fantastic and has so many years of eligibility! Played great against PSU!

Micah is from Notre Dame, right? But I haven't heard much about him.

I'm sure I'm missing someone and I know some of you could answer this in a microsecond. So who is it?

St Juste gets turned around and plays pretty soft coverage. Seems to be a pretty good tackler but his foot work and cover skills must get better in the next couple of years. Iowa and Wisconsin picked on him with great success.

Agree that Damien Wilson and BBC if we are counting CC transfers.
Personally I thought Chris Williamson was a really good two year transfer from Florida. He started playing really well when the team turned it around towards the end of last season. One of my favorite players to watch.

Damien Wilson and Briean Boddy-Calhoun were both CC transfers when Kill needed to quickly fill some huge holes on defense. Both were all conference and both are still in the NFL.

I don't think JC kids are usually viewed as transfers.

I think the OP is asking about transfers from other P5 schools, not from JUCO.

Campbell as well

Mecklenberg all Big Ten and a great defensive player in the nfl for Denver, I believe. He was from Edina HS and went to Augustana in Sioux Falls. He transferred to the U of M from there and played all over the field... linebacker... defensive end...blitzed. He was all-pro for many seasons in the nfl.
He played for the GOPHER in 1981 &1982. He played with Denver on some of their greatest teams ever from 1983 through 1995. He was all pro 6 times. He was listed as a linebacker but played all over. In one game he played all 7 front Dline / linebacker positions.
karl Mecklenberg! He was GREAT!

Damien Wilson to me. He was my favorite linebacker of all time. Came flying out of the camera view to make tackles.

Best tx from(last 35 yrs)

P5: williamson, st juste (I think he ll have a great 2020)
All fbs: riley
Juco: Campbell, wilson , bbc
D2: schlect

There's probably some transfer stud from Iowa Pre-Flight or something in the 1930s who came over in the Depression and led us to 3 straight nattys that we don't even know about

Riley.

Not the best, but this just made me think of Travis Cole. Huge game against Ohio State.

Jack Brewer came in with Riley from SMU in 1998 via the transfer route. He was very good, went on to NFL.

So in the *modern* era of graduate transfers and just transfers in general these days (think Justin Fields, Georgia to Ohio State with no degree, didn't have to sit out) .....

until last season did we not have any transfers from other P5 programs who came in here and at least had some contribution on the field? Say in the last 10 years?

One name that jumps to mind is Karon Riley. He transferred from SMU I believe and was a beast as a defensive end for us.
Best pass rushing Gopher that I have ever seen.

The Riley / Schlecht combo was something special to watch. Schlecht was so quick off the ball and Riley so good at getting to the QB. Been way too long since we have had dominant players along the defensive line. Hopefully that changes here at some point in the next few years.

I know that he doesn't apply to this thread because he didn't transfer in, but Lamanzer Williams IMHO was better than Karon Riley. Lamanzer was an All-American with 22 sacks in his senior season. Mr. Williams was a terror to the opposing offense.

Brian Bobek from OSU and Brendan Beal from Florida are two that I remember. Both were derailed by injury their whole career.
