Who besides Tubby would pull starters so early in either half

Tubby pulls all starters for 6 minutes in first half. (Way longer than I thought he was going too)

Again with 5 minutes left in second half...against a NW team that shoots threes.

I'm not sure if it was confidence or foolish optimism that our second team (3rd if you count Ellenson & Mo) could keep scoring, break the press with relative ease and block a few shots...but they did. Regardless I am impressed with this teams depth.

Plus a great game from Austin! Go Gophers!

GIP, imho they deserved to be benched earlier in the 1st half.

Anyway, we won the game playing a very poor 25-30 minutes. We are not gonna be at the top of our game every game, so we still won when we played far below our top level. But we better not start this way at Illinois, or it will be a long night. I think we will come out in a much better state.

GO GOPHERS!!!

Easy to look past this game when you have Illinois, Indiana, and Michigan coming up. First half was brutal, but at least we got the win. 2-0 looks pretty good. Beat Illinois and we'll be in great shape. I'm not expecting a slow start next game.

I agree on Tubby's timing of early-game substitutions - the starters came out very flat and didn't seem to be providing the expected effort - but I don't like the full-squad line changes, which fail more often than work.

As for the late-game substitutions, I'm guess it was due to scheduling - trying to figure out where to give the bench some good PT. Coming into this game, I'm sure Tubby figured on getting the 2nd and 3rd squads some significant PT. The game didn't exactly go as planned, so given the opportunity with a ~18 point lead with about 4-5 minutes left, Tubby pulled the trigger. When NW pulled to within 11 with a few minutes left, I was surprised to see Tubby stick it out, but it worked out - he must trust the bench more than the rest of us. :p

Whatever Tubby is doing just keep doing it - it's working!!!
