Who are you betting on, Beth Goetz or The Field?
 

Well Beth is an easy bet since we don't know who the field even is, at all.

But I don't think anyone has a clue on what is going on and etc.
 

The field. I'll actually be disappointed if they hire Goetz after wasting all this time and money. If she is the best candidate for the job then it should have been evident already and she should already have the job.
 

Regrettably Beth. This University is a joke. Wasting hundreds of thousands of dollars when they've already made up their mind.

It's tough to make the call that she's the best candidate for the job before the search process identifies the other actual candidates. I realize there's a lot of cynicism over the process, but it is possible to legitimately gather a list of candidates and ultimately determine that Goetz is the best of the bunch. It looks to me like a no-win proposition. Hire her without the search and people would be upset that other options weren't considered.

Old Goph is right. They had no choice but to do a search. I like Goetz a lot, but I am not sure she is the right person for the job, I am also not sure she is the wrong person for the job, although the fact she waited 6 months to make up her mind is not a great endorsement to me.
 

Rumor has it Beth likely will get it. This person said, I love Beth and she is great to work for if they hire her the school needs a kick ass #2 but right now this department is in shambles, we need serious help.I asked, why not Kill? Love Jerry Kill but his demands were too high and the school didn't want another Alvarez.
 




Anyone who bets against Goetz is giving up easy money. She seems well respected, the question is just how freaking mean can she be. Let's face it, there are not a lot of places on earth with more testosterone driven oversized egos than a major college athletic department. It's possible for a woman to succeed in this environment, but she better have tough and very thick skin and be able to go head to head while being respectful and ego boosting.

Not an easy task, but I'm hopeful.
 

I understand the argument that Old Goph puts forth. No way it's her though. If the search firm says Beth, then it will hurt their business. Who would want to hire a search firm, pay that much money, that says promote from within? You bring in an auditor and the auditor has to find something or their not doing their job perceptually. It would also make our President look real bad for spending that kind of money for no reason.

Those in the public eye can't win. Kill is fired and Claeys gets criticism for openly campaigning for job that we all know he wanted. Then Goetz tries to play it coy and people actually believe she can't make up her mind. What are these people supposed to do?

When it comes to major athletics, Minnesota has been one of the worst run programs in the B1G for a long time. Maybe some are just tired of losing.

Then why continue to post here? Sports are supposed to be fun. Find something that doesn't cause you so much misery.

Never said it made me miserable. It would just be nice to make the right hire at some point, whether it's the AD or a coach, just to get the Gophers to an Iowa or Wisconsin level. I don't think that's too much to ask.

Message boards are here to vent just as much as they are here to have fun.

Have you tried kicking your dog instead? You might feel better and I know I would. I am sure though your dog would prefer that you vent.

:confused: Ummm ok....If I was going to abuse animals over frustrations from Gopher athletics, I would have been thrown in jail along time ago.

The point I was trying to make is that venting may make you feel better but for some of us it comes off as whining. Even worse is when whining turns into a melt down. I am not saying that is what you do but I am not a big fan of whining.

I wasn't trying to whine, I was just defending that you can be critical of the administration/teams and still be a fan. I hope the right hire is made and we all can have much happier times. But after 50+ years of mostly losing, blunder after blunder by the people in charge, and the way this search has been handled so far, it's hard to stay optimistic at all times.

You are doing a lot more than venting. You basically have written off the whole program for the last 50 years. I have a feeling that no matter who they hire or what ever progress they make you will continue to "whine"... Sorry, vent.

I am? Madtown was the person who started it, not me. If you want to blindly pretend the university administration hasn't been a joke for the past 50 years, then I can't help you. Maybe you should re-check the records of our football and basketball teams over that period of time.

I'm optimistic for every new hire and every new season we have. I've been critical of Claeys but I'll definitely give him this year to prove himself. I was one of the few Pitino supporters through this entire season.

That is the line Trump used after one of his his name calling episodes. It is also what kids on the play ground will say after calling each other names.
