Since the 1999-00 season, 245 of the 351 Division I basketball programs (69.8%) have appeared in at least one NCAA Tournament. Of those 245, the Gophers are one of six Power 6 programs to appear in 4 NCAA Tournaments. Those with 4 NCAA appearances, with last appearance in parentheses, are:

Clemson (2011)
Florida State (2012)
Minnesota (2013)
Ole Miss (2015)
Saint John's (2015)
Seton Hall (2016)

Of these 6, only 2 have advanced to the second weekend of the NCAA Tournament, Seton Hall to the Sweet 16 in 2000 and Ole Miss to the Sweet 16 in 2001.

Other programs comparable to Minnesota in terms of NCAA appearances since 2000?

5 appearances -- Colorado, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Miami, and Texas Tech.

3 appearances -- Arizona State

Presently? Boston College and St. Johns.

I've thought for quite awhile Ole Miss is a fair comparison for the Gopher program. Usually solid, but a general feeling that it should be a lot better.

On the non-Power 6 side, I'd compare us to New Mexico. Great fans and a rockin' arena when the program really has it going.

Right now I would go
Ole Miss, Clemson, St. Johns, Washington, Texas Tech and Illinois

Seton Hall seems apt. Pretty good program in the 1990's. But after that coach left, had a pretty hard time getting it going again.
