For me it is Harbison, we have to find a go to receiver or our offense is going to struggle the same way the Vikings did last season. If Harbison steps up it will open up so many offensive options and give our QB a go to target that can take a short pass the distance.

Hard to argue with your choice, but I'm going to go with a RB. Either one of the returning guys making a huge jump or Edwards coming in and being dynamic would really open up our offense.

Not even close. It has to be Nelson since he would have far more opportunities and ways to make game changing plays.

I think Nelson is the obvious choice for most people. I will say Damien Wilson on defense. Having a good MLB could do wonders for the d.

Mr. Nelson.... 873yds - 8 TD'd in just 7 games...not a bad start.

Not sure I would point to the stats from last year as a postive sign. The positive was that he didn't seem to lose his head and make a ton of stupid mistake. From a stat standpoint we are going to need a lot more out of him than a sub 50% completion percentage, 124 yards a game and a 1:1 TD:INT ratio. All those things should improve with a more stable O-Line and the added experience he will gain from being on the field. Obviously some help from the receiver postion would be huge as well.

+1 I like the idea of having an offensive, defensive, and special team player category for "Which player stepping up would make the largest impact." My choice for defense is De'Vondre Campbell but I would be very happy if it is Wilson. On special teams my choice is Ryan Santoso. He is going to have a major impact on our kick off return defense. He alone is going to improve that aspect of our game.

I think it was a bad start. 478 yrds, 3 tds, and 6 ints over his last 5 starts. Obviously Nelson stepping up would make the biggest impact.

Three of those games were against Nebraska, Michigan, and Michigan State defenses. What I observed in the Michigan game was that the receivers were getting zero separation. The Illinois weather was not conducive to the passing game.

I feel that Nelson is finding the open receivers. He keeps his eyes down field. He needs to work on where he puts the ball. I think coaches can fix that problem. When a Quarterback on the other hand, has the “deer in the headlights” issue, I think it’s time for him to move to a new position.

I'm going with Hageman. I am hoping he'll have a better surrounding cast and that he along with Damien Wilson and Roland Johnson will lead the group's run defense this year.

Yeah it got to be QB, ergo I will go with Nelson. I think he has "it", so I am not concerned about his progress from year one to year two. It will happen.

If Nelson does not have a receiver step up he will never get to show his improvement, but that is the chicken or egg theory. Ultimately they need help from both.

Great wrs certainly make life easier for a QB, but if a QB is really good he doesn't need great wrs to perform well. McNabb is an example off the top of my head.

I have to go with defense and the guy with the most potential is Hageman. If he can up his game and force the OL to focus on him, it will be a boost to the D and help others make plays. When was the last time we had a unanimous first team BIG player on D?

WVD? Karon Riley?

I think most of the offensive woes had to do with the health and youth of the line. Well, they're older, and I hope they are healthier this year as well. I don't think they need to step up, but with them playing to expectations, it can allow a perceived step up by a RB, WR, or QB.

If the often bandied about thought of Derrick Wells moving to corner comes to fruition, I think the biggest need to "step up" would be at the safety position.

Hmm. I think Nelson since QB is so important to our offense. My second would be Wilson the JUCO LB. He could be a difference maker for our run defense.

If not Wilson, then at least someone at linebacker, preferrably at mike.
