It's interesting to see how players respond and develop to a new coaching staff. Sometimes, the results are outstanding. Remember Lamanzer Williams? He had a ton of talent, but didn't shine until Mason's crew arrived. On the flipside, Cory Sauter was an above average Big 10 quarterback who looked brutal in Mason's first year. Justin Valentine was another recent talent that went backwards when the new coaching staff arrived.
So, who do you think will benefit the most from a change of scenery? There are so many choices but I'm going to pick Matt Garin. I keep thinking that our defensive line must've been really weak, because Garin clearly was not ready for extensive playing time. Garin was manhandled and looked overmatched each and every time he played. I remember seeing Garin play at Eastview. Although very lean, he was a monster. If he bulks up just a bit in the weightroom and is provided better technique, watch out. He's my choice to have a breakout year.
There are so many other potential players that could have breakout years. It's purely speculation, but name your choice for the breakout player in 2011.

Most excited to see Beal and what he can do two years removed. But the guy I see improving the most under Kill is Victor Keise. I think behind McKnight who's proven to be a WR threat, Vic will be Gray's number 2 go to guy.

I asked MV this very question as a part of his mailblog and he said Stoudermire at corner.

Without a doubt I have to go with Gray. He finally gets to show what he can do at QB and I think his athleticism will obviously be showcased a lot more there than at WR.

I think Gray was built to run this offense. I am very excited to see him play this season. He is my choice.

I cant wait to see Gray get all the snaps. Also cant wait to see all our LB's Beal of course, will he be the stud everybody thinks?? Tinsley will continue to improve. Also I think Hageman may really benefit if he can mature and focus on football under coach Kill.

All of the returning DB's.

It was either the first season playing major college football or their first year starting, all of those guys will be considerable better with one season under their belt (this really could apply to the whole defense).

Gray. All day. All the way. Built for this.

I think the real question is who is going to get playing time under this regime that was overlooked by the previous...

Gray is the obvious answer. For two less obvious selections, I will go with Donnell Kirkwood on offense and James Manuel on defense.

I will say

Edwards will be a pleasant surprise.

Devon Wright watch out for this guy he could have a monster year.

I love it...we have already listed 4 different running backs.

Eskridge, Kirkwood, Edwards and Wright.

I don't know how he'll fit into specific schemes, but I've been impressed by Keanon Cooper on more than one occasion already, and he sounds like exactly the kind of guy Kill says he likes to work with. I expect him to be a standout player by the time he's done.

What is the deal with this kid? There seemed to be questions about whether or not he qualified and i've still not heard a clear answer if he is part of this team.

If so, he seemed dynamic coming out of HS.

DEVON WRIGHT LIVES!

At least, he was enrolled fall semester:

Devon J Wright
Enrollment: Educ/Hum Dev
Twin Cities
Fall 2010

Ok ok.

Do you know if he would show up on that database if he enrolled but never really came to school? Additionally, if he was still on the team, would it show he was enrolled for spring semester yet?

I feel kind of creepy using this kind of database.

Yes, he would show up if he registered for fall classes but never attended. The fact that it still says Fall 2010 instead of Spring 2011 is troubling. If he isn't registered for classes that start in less than a week, it's almost 100% that he's gonzo.

No creepiness factor whatsoever, Bob. It's no different than looking up someone's number in the phonebook, or viewing their Twitter account.

phonebook--there are probably people on here that haven't used a phonebook in 2 years!

I'll say Gjere!

Hageman without a doubt... If there ever was a lost soul on the 2010 team I would put Hageman top of the list.... So much potential and not on the field... This coaching staff will make a huge difference for this young man!

The roster aslo shows Willie Tatum is still on the team and we have just recently found out he left the team during mid October. I would assume the roster will be updated in a few weeks, after school starts and the coaches are confident with who is returning/eligible etc. etc. Until then, hold your breath and cross your fingers that there will be no or very few meaningful departures, patients.

Jewhan Edwards is one I'm worried about, particularly given where we're at with the DT position.

Actually, it doesn't. The roster page defaults to the 2010 roster, for some reason. You must change it to the 2011 roster in the drop-down box to get the most updated version.

I agree with Maverick, it's Hageman. I watched him closely in Murfreesboro and he looked lost. Huge and fast and no clue. D Line is as much attitude as it is physical and the few times he was in he just looked lost. It just may be that he lacks the streak of mean it takes to be a top D lineman. Could be that his makeup is better suited to tight end. I'm confident that Kill and staff will work with him and get him into the position best suited for him. I for one would like to see him drop about 40 lbs and become the killer tight end we thought we had out of high school. Too often coaches see potential rather than what is right in front of their eyes.

I have a feeling you will be right. He made too many comments early about TE to have his heart 100% into being a top DE.
