Which Gophers will opt-out of the bowl game?

Sure there will be a few but in general our guys tend to play more often then they chose to sit out when it comes to bowl games.

Ersery, especially after the injury, would make a lot of sense as an opt out. My guess is Jackson plays. Will be interesting to see what guys do but my guess is most will elect to play.

We give Fleck some well-deserved criticism when it comes to game day coaching and clock management. But we absolutely need to sing his praises when it comes to recruiting the right kids, player buy-in and culture. Anybody that can't see that these kids love playing for him is choosing not to. He also seems to have implemented a philosophy of recruiting kids that fit his culture. I expect a vast majority to play like they have in all of the past bowl games under Fleck. Obviously Ersery with his injury is not going to play and I don't think a single Gopher fan would be critical of his decision.

I think most play. It will be interesting what schools allow players to do once they are paid through the schools. Will opting out be allowed without the school agreeing to it?

Yes and I don’t have the stats but it seems PJF teams have higher than average participation in our bowl games.

When it’s a mid tier bowl game, I don’t really care. If it gets other guys experience and reps that’s awesome. Hopefully helps them gROW for next year

Imo all nfl potential players should opt out. Sure it be nice if we win the bowl game but the future is now. Let them get the majority of first team practices and game experience… but if Alabama was to lose to Auburn tonight and we get to play a team like Bama than sure all hands on deck.

If it's stupid Syracuse in the stupid Bad Boy Mowers Pinstripe Bowl again, I hope the entire team opts out.
Couldn't disagree more....even if it isn't a great game it is still another Gopher football game and the bowl practices are a great chance to get the young guys additional reps heading into next year.

I think the day is coming when players leave teams midway through year if they think they've proven enough.
A few will do that, but quitting on your team mid season isn’t going to move you up on the draft board.

unfortunately we have zero that should hold out for this bowl game. I would assume most of the dudes who are on the edge should play against another good team and hopefully make the combine with how they do in the bowl game. Taylor next year is a different story, he will be drafted

Excellent, excellent point...should be very interesting.

I'm already jonesing for your HS football info and takes. It's going to be a long eight (8) months and that's coming from a Coon Rapids grad.

Syracuse will be invited to a much better bowl than we will. They’re sitting at a 9 win season after beating #6 Miami so I don’t think we’ll need to worry about being paired up with them.

I am so confused by this post. What is your threshold for a player opting out? Your last sentence makes is sound like 'definitely will be drafted' as the threshold.

If that's the case, we 100% have players that should opt out. Ersery being the primary as he's being looked at as a 1st round pick.

Only if they send us to the Ice (Pin Stripe) Bowl in Yankee Stadium. Then I can't fault any player with NFL prospects from opting out. It was a joke last time. But hopefully we are in NC or somewhere else warm.

I honestly hope every Gopher player that will be leaving the program for the NFLl draft opts out. Let's give next year's players a chance to practice with the first team and play first team in a meaningful game against a good opponent. Let's start prepping for next year with the ball game

I hope not. That would be pathetic. They would be turning their backs on the coaches, their teammates and the fans. The ultimate in selfishness, but I understand that is becoming more the norm in a "its all about me" culture.
