Looking at how balanced the gophers are and non of them average 15 pts a game i think first team is probably out?

1st team:
Zeller
Burke
D. Thomas
B. Paul
Appling

2nd team:
Rodney
Andre H.
Craft
Hardaway
A. White

3rd team:
Mbakwe
Berggren
Marble
Oladipo
Watford

What do you think?

Rodney and Mbakwe have the best chances....Andre H might make 3rd team if he plays well and averages 15ppg.

I would make a suggestion, but I am biased towards our Gophers, therefore I disqualify myself from voting.

When Damien did not make 1st Team All Big Ten Defensive Team, I quit trying.

I'm still here, just running low on material.

The Doctor has a point...but I think this team has more star quality than that team and will get higher consideration.

Rodney has to average 15 pts, 6 reb per game during the big ten season to even get consideration. I think he does and is second team for his effort.

Mbakwe has to start and average a double/double in the big ten season to make second team.

Dre needs 15pts, 6 asst to make 3rd team.

Austin and JC play glamour positions where others teams top scorers play and have no realistic shot at making the team this year without averaging 20 per game...and that isn't going to happen.

Just my 2 cents.

That omission was absolutely outrageous. Had me seething for a day or two, at least.

But unlike the good Dr., I'll still put in my meaningless votes/guesses, because its fun to speculate.

1st Team - none
2nd Team - Rodney
3rd Team - Andre and Trev

Also - MM, I think you have Oladipo too low. 2nd team I'm guessing.

Oladipo

I could put many Indiana guys on that 3rd team. Might be why its hard to give any 2nd team lots of shots to go around. Watford 12pts/7.2 reb/ shooting 41%fg/92%ft/45%-3. Oladipo 13pts/5.6 reb shooting 65% floor, 65%ft, 26%-3's. Oladipo plays great defense. I guess i could bump him up and White down to 3rd team depending on how Iowa finishes the season.

ok all defensive team, I think these 4 are pretty easy:
Craft
Austin
Rodney
Oladipo

Not sure who would be a 5th?
Dawson? Richardson? Mbakwe? Berggren?

Mbakwe has to start and average a double/double in the big ten season to make second team.

If Mbakwe averages a double-double, he will be first team and have a shot at POY.

Draymond Green averaged a double-double last year and was 1st team and POY.

The last Big Ten player before that to average a double-double was Mbakwe and he was 2nd team all-B1G on a Gopher team that was 6-12 in 2011. I think this year will be a better record and thus, he will be on 1st team if he averages a double-double.

The player before Mbakwe to average a double-double was DJ White at Indiana in 2008 and he was first-team and POY.

Not sure when the player before that was to average a double-double, but it was pre-2004. In other words, averaging a double-double in Big Ten play is a rarity and will be rewarded, particularly if said player is on a winning/contending team.

Doesn't matter. Players from IU, OSU, and MSU will get voted in over our guys even if ours are more deserving unless it's obvious. Our team is also more balanced than others in that we don't rely on one guy as the go to guy every game

Partially true. But, Mbakwe was on the Pre-Season All-Big Ten First Team heading into last season (2011-12) and was on his way of likely being First Team for the regular season, too. So, he's on the radar and if he averages a double-double, and if we have a good record, he will be 1st team.

Rodney first team
Trevor second team
Andre third team

I think a lot depends on how MN plays in the B10 season. If they finish 12-6 or 13-5 they have a lot better chance of having players with similar numbers getting on a team than if they finish 8-10 or 9-9. I think Williams, Trevor, and Andre all have legit shots, and will have better ones the higher MN finishes in the conference...

No doubt by March Rodney will be 1st team. Nobody will disagree.

Forgetting about Robinson and Stauskas from Michigan, those kids are studs but gets overlooked by Burke and Hardaway. Both of them are putting up numbers equal or better stats than our guys.

I think the Indiana and Michigan hype will hurt the gophers. I see both Burke and hardaway being first team, deshaun Thomas and Cody zeller are the other 2 locks for first team, it will be interesting to see who gets that 5th spot. Andre won't get more votes then Aaron craft IMO unless Andre averages 15-20 ppg. I just don't see anyone cracking first team, I would bet both mbakwe and Williams make 2nd team and I don't think we get anyone else
