After IU, I hate O$U. I will admit it's completely irrational but I can't put into words how much I hate the school. It might be the fact that there fans they think O$U is Gods gift to earth, or the fact they don't give a $h!t about there really good basketball team, or the fact that Matta couldn't coach his way out of a wet paper bag, or the fact that the same wet paper bag has a more personality than the Sweater Vest, or the fact that when athletes leave for the pro's they have to take a pay cut.
Living with Ohio State fans, it is annoying hearing them lord their athletic superiority over me as a Minnesota fan. Honestly, when I heard about the Terelle Pryor incident and selling his Sportsmanship Award or whatever, I was ecstatic. My brother also thinks OSU is just God's gift to collegiate athletics and that they are infallible, so seeing that made me happy, and I will be equally ecstatic if we beat them today.
I also don't like them that much as a basketball program lately. Last year's team would have been nothing without Evan Turner. It wasn't even a team, it was Evan Turner and those 4 other guys on the floor, they went 3-3 or something while Turner was out. I'll admit this year's team is a little more well-rounded, Lighty is a very good player, as is Diebler, but all the talk is about their freshman one-and-done superstar Jared Sullinger. And then in 07-08 I think when they went to the national title game, they had what, 3 or 4 one-and-done players on that team? (Although I did enjoy seeing OSU lose both the football and basketball national titles to Florida that year.) It's like Kentucky almost, although not quite as bad; how can you even be a Kentucky fan when your team has an entirely different set of players every year? I just don't like how Thad Matta relies on racking up the stars in recruiting. He doesn't have to be a good coach if he just brings in the superstar players, not to mention how pissed he seems to get at the officials sometimes. Oh yeah, and the whole "THE Ohio State" thing just strikes me as arrogant.
I also had to laugh when someone pointed out that Ralph might have pushed Shurna. (Did he? The announcers didn't seem to think so, but KFAN did, my Ohio State fan father made sure to point that out.) It was funny because Ohio State probably would have suffered their first loss at the hands of Northwestern if Shurna had played.
Wisconsin, while a rival, I have respect for; Bo Ryan is a good coach, although the rage he also can get into during games is offputting to say the least.
One person on the Ohio State thread posted by the OP said he disliked Purdue because of the way their fans boo the officials. While watching Minnesota at Purdue not too long ago, I noticed the same thing. Generally, I have no ill will toward Purdue, and would have loved to see them make a Final Four run last year or this year, and was genuinely disappointed when I heard Hummel was going to be out again this year. The trio of Johnson, Moore, and Hummel was great, and they deserved to make a deep tourney run, and it's too bad they didn't. Anyway, while watching Minnesota play Purdue this year, I couldn't help but notice the same thing: the fans jeer the officials on EVERY. SINGLE. CALL. I swear, JaJuan Johnson could have punched Colton Iverson in the face, and they would expect Colt to get called for a blocking foul (although for the things Colt gets called for, I would be half expecting it myself).
