How big does the Big Ten want to get? Here's an interesting (and outlandish) take from a GT message board. But I've heard this sort of speculation before - maybe it isn't as outlandish as it seems to me.

Soon there will be 5 to 6 major conferences and a bunch of independents. There is no tradition anymore in college football it's all about the dollar. Sad, but that's the world we live in.

The game runs on money. The Big Ten could turn its back on the money, but then we'd be left behind. I remember in the 70's it was a rare treat to be able to watch a Gophers game on TV. Then we got to see all the games on TV, but it really changed the world of college football.
