It will read

Gophers 42 Vistors 10

But again the scoreboard is not the measure of the game. Measure the team, are they better? Are they executing the offense better? Does the defense show the ability not only in the number of three and outs, but also in the take aways?

The answer, yes to all of the above. And it will be manifested in another 55 rush game. Sure there is talk about being balanced, but why when it is not needed. Bennett will rush 28 times for 200, Eskridge get only 5 carries for 20, but Kirwood or "Kirkland" will take advantage of the early battering and get 18 carries for 145. The touchdowns? Bennett 2, Kirkwood 1, Carter 1,
McKnight 1, Gray 1.

The defense will be better, and South Dakota will struggle. They get a late first half field goal, and Weber throws a pick six in the third quarter forcing the ball to Stoudemire, Shane Potter returns it 40 yards.

Other than the Pick, Weber throw 18 times completes 12 for 185 yards and 2 TDs, looks more comfortable, and the play action strike to McKnight is textbook.

I hope Bennett only gets/needs ~20 carries. We need him fresh for week 3.

I'll say Gophers 27 SD 10

Adam Weber looked pretty much the same against MTSU as he did last year. Once the run gets stopped I expect results similar to last year. inconsistent. Run won't get stopped against USD but AW will not stretch the field and Ellestad ain't helping so score 21-3. MN over SD.
The Ellestad in the room....missing field goals? Missed field goals + inconsistent QB = trouble.

Gophers 38 South Dakota 17

4 rushing TDs and Weber finds Troy in the endzone. Defense still struggles with the pass, with Royston and Theret out.

Passing

Last week we showed that we can commit to the run. While that's all we should need to beat SD, I hope they throw a little more in this game to prepare for next week.

Gophers 45
Coyotes 13

49-3 Gophers. Gray plays the entire second half with Kirkwood. They add 2 TD'sto the 4 scored in the first half by the offense. Add one more by the special teams or defense.

Our D may be vulnerable, but not to South Dakota. South Dakota won't have the speed to chase down our RB when they make big gains. 40-10.

Win big and let Eskridge run all he wants.

Edit: Also, get our kicker a few successful tries please.

44-10. Five different players score TDs and Ellestad responds with a 3-3 day on FGs. The Gophers punt once and run out the clock on both halves.

41 - 14 Gophers.

The game plan on both sides of the ball will be vanilla, in order to keep as much meaningful game film out of USC and Lame Kiffin's hands.

21-14 at half, but Goph clamp down in the second half and shut out USD the rest of the way.

MN 27, USD 10. The offense should be able to run at will, but I really hope the passing attack shows something.

28-7 Gophers

In a way I hope that we struggle and win, as opposed to having everything click with precision and winning big, easily. That way we can get back to work at practice, work hard and play much better vs. Southern Cal. I'm also a believer that we are not good enough to play two great games on consecutive weeks. IIRC in '79 a Salem team looked horrible, but won vs. Ohio U and then came back the next week and had Ohio State on the ropes, but Garry White was stopped a yard short on a 4th down to kill the Gophers chances. Go Gophers!

Let's just say the coyotes will be bringing their own anvil to be dropped on their head to put them out of their misery.

Goph's 34-10.

Ellestad gets the game ball for finally making a fg over 40 yards.

45-9

I just don't see the gophers running the score too high no matter how dominant we are.

For what? A junior that isn't the present nor the future? He shouldn't even see the ball in the second half of this game.

He's our third back. It's a long year. We're playing South Dakota. Football is hard.

We called Larry's number about 40 times one year against Purdue in the Dome. Never really had the same twitch all year.

We need to go three deep at RB Dpod. Eskridge will be very important as the season goes on. I think reps will make him better, thus the gophers.

With Wright out, and Edwards probably redshirting. I'm not sure what the other options are.

I'd be cool to work Hoese more, but he may not play and I'm not sure of the long term value of that either.

thats a pretty good prediction on the score. i think the gophs are far superior and will have little to no trouble pushing around USD. If you liked how they ran last week against middle tenn. state, just wait. i think minney goes off for nearly 400 on the ground.

You are a winner! You get it.

"The game plan on both sides of the ball will be vanilla, in order to keep as much meaningful game film out of USC and Lame Kiffin's hands"

It also keeps out of the hands of the Big 10 Coaches as well.

Game planning, and play books are revealed as needed, and wanted. Use what you need, and see what the defense does. Always measure the reaction. Add something new on tape, maybe counter tendancies, get a key first down, or break a big play. In addition to the gains on the field, add the time in film room, and practice time for Northern Illinois, and Northwestern. And when they come to town, have the next counter ready.

If I had one problem with the former coach, he always opened the play book in the first game against Eastern Nobody State. And by the time we were in the fourth quarter against Wisconsin we had nothing.

In an ideal world, here's how I'd break down the carries:

1st half -

Bennett 15-20
Eskridge 5-7
Kirkland 8-10

2nd half -

Bennett 5-7
Eskridge 0-2
Kirkland 15-20

Gophs 38
USD 13

Bennett has 2 TD's
Weber hits a receiver deep for a TD
Defense/special teams comes up with 2 TDs and a FG

In an ideal world, here's how I'd break down the carries:

1st half -

Bennett 15-20
Eskridge 5-7
Kirkland 8-10

2nd half -

Bennett 5-7
Eskridge 0-2
Kirkland 15-20

Don't forget Hoese with 4 rushes for 5 yards and 3 more TDs. ;)
