O.K. it's not likely since I'm 60 and never played or coached basketball--HOWEVER--after watching the Gophers and a lot of other games I want to be sure I make these suggestions before mid-nite madness. FIRST: good teams pass the ball around the perimeter with much more velocity than the Gophs do. Thats how they get the defense out of position. SECOND: When our guards drive into the lane They MUST learn to snap the ball out to the shooters and the shooters must get into position. THIRD: Somehow, we have to get enough depth to ALWAYS start RS111 AND Colton together. Do we really have to red shirt Eliason? Neither of the big guys is as good out there alone as they are together. FOURTH: Use the press and don't abandon it for entire games against good teams. And---last--With 10 secs. on the shot clock the p.g. can't stand in the center with the other 4 standing around like they're waiting for a bus.

You would be a good coach

because you have common sense.

Klay

Respectfully, I prefer our present 60-ish Head Coach. :D

That being said I agree about RSIII and Colt. They seem to click well together.

In any case the last bit of the season suggests Colt should get more minutes and/or start. One consideration is his ability to limit his fouling.

I also like your bus analogy. It reminds me of Godot. If they just wait long enough, the bus or Godot, will come!

We need a PF (Mbakwe) alongside Ralph or Colton with the other coming off the bench. Neither Ralph nor Colton matches up well defensively with the vast majority of 4's we will play and neither plays big enough to take advantage of the height difference offensively.

I certainly agree that the Gophers don't pass the ball with enough velocity around the perimeter, but they also lack guards who are able to put the ball on the floor to either drive or shoot. The only guy on the team capable of dribbling in to a 3 is Devoe. The only guard on the team capable of getting to the basket against quickness is Al.

On the wing, we have two really good athletes in Carter and Williams, but neither is a good enough ballhandler to consistently get to the rack.

Blake is always ready to shoot when he gets the ball, he does an excellent job of that. I just wish he was more like Diebler in that he could get his 3 off in more ways than just directly off the pass.

No offense, but if we are going to start both Colt and Ralph, we're not going to be a fantastic pressing team. Not quick enough.

And, bank, if you really think Blake is completely one-dimensional, you haven't been paying attention. He's obviously primarily a shooter, but he does other things or he wouldn't play

ok, he passes well and plays good D and rebounds well for a guard. He is a 1 dimensional offensive player, he can not drive the lane and break ankles with his dribbling and can not create his own shot. He is a poor mans Wally Szczerbiak. I love Blake's shot, it is sweet but wish he was more of a threat to slash.

Tubby played ralph and colton together this season toward the end because he had no choice but to. He would have liked to use it more, but after the loss of royce and trevor, we had no depth to speak of in big men, so we had to keep one of them off the floor

Blake Hoffarber is the Nick Punto of Gopher hoops.

I can feel your frustration. However the fact we made the tournament is gravy given the nature of our assets. It was mostly coaching that brings us here, as we have only young guys with potential.

We are rebuilding and thus must have patience. Wait till a guy becomes a junior before you start to expect gold (there are only 5 underclassman superstars each season that can transform a team). Tubby has taken has taken a bunch of role players to the NCAA tournament twice. This team has no superstars.

You live in a perfect world...I am sure Tubby will try teach the players he has to work with better basketball. I am sure there will be drills aimed at shoring up the deficiencies.

Let’s be happy that have a coach who can teach this kids versus dwelling on properties that don’t exist. Elliasion will not be a savior. He needs time to grow.

It’s a program, thus there is no immediate gratification without hard work. This is why you’re not the coach. I am confident that Tubby did not want his players to stand around. The most talented players he has are sophomores. Just kids, and there are not many superstars to go around (i.e. Wall, Carmelo, Laetner, Ewing, Samson II, etc)

Next year, I expect the boys to improve and would be disappointed if they do not, but I will never chastise the team for achieving more than possible. Remember, this is the only sport that the U has not won a major championship (i.e. It’s hard).

P.S. capitalizing words in your post does not emphasize a point, it only makes one look like they have a weak argument. Don't mean to pick at you, I am just generally annoined by the trend on the internet.

"ANNOINENCE"

I want to make a heartfelt apology to the previous poster that I "ANNOINED" by putting capital letters in my post I know how annoining it can be to do something as impt. as reading about b-ball and running into such an offensive annoinance. You are likely one of our cherished "Tea Partiers" and the world, in general, is annoining. I'm just glad you aren't one of those idiots who annoins me by not being able to spel corectlie.

klay Thompson fan, you mind if I put you down as my candidate in the other thread? I get 10% if you do get the job.

"ANNOINENCE"

I'M wilin TOO be A CANYDATE fer COACH only IF I cann FLIE first CLASS To RECROOT in HAWAI!

I hope you would also not be afraid to take risks on guys like Leuer and Wittman. It is maddening to watch guys like this light it up against top competition knowing that a decent recruiting push could have had them both.

Lob passes on the outside because our guards are short. More bounce passes would help. No to "always" starting Iverson and Sampson together. It won't be necessary next year. No to the press all the time. We are not that good at it. Use it as a surprise weapon and continue only if it is working.
