I'm sick and tired of this ridiculous speculation since the Iowa game. Below is a list of what I've "learned"...completely based on hearsay and rumor.

- many don't like Brewster..I get it...they don't people who are overly positive when the results don't match in their eyes. Some WANT to be right and have predicted that Brewster will fail ( not real Gopher fans if you ask me).
- Maturi and some Admin people want Brewster gone....Maturi has enough sense to know that if he cans him...unless he replaces him with Brian Kelly of Cincy or Gary Patterson of TCU or Mack Brown of TX...then he will be all done too.
- Maturi can't get any other coach to talk to him what coach would knowing that he too could get canned in 3 years....after going to 2 bowl games in 3 years. Who would!!??
- Brewster I net KNOWS that Maturi is sniffing around. Nothing personal....but every AD should have a short list always ready.
- Maturi created this on his own...his only way forward is to let Brewster coach
- I dont belive Maturi has enough savvy to get that Brewster needs a 2 yr extension to be able to recruit properly...sad for our beloved football program.

So this brings me to when will Brewster have his next press conference or will we see a firing...or extension or vote of confidence for 2010 or something ACTUAL to happen??

Maturi better do it on Monday...anything else is proving that Maturi is a lightweight and shouldn't have that job.

The U should extend Brewster for 2 more years and give him 5...like every coach should get with a modicum of success...which he has had.

Go Gophers! and Go Brewster...if you are successful...the U will be too.

I agree quick action is key. If you don't make the move now you have a tough time finding a replacement. If you don't come out with a convincing sign of support for Brewster now you hamper his ability to close out this recruiting class and be convincing to the next. Either way Maturi can't sit on the fence or provide any sign that he's even on it. decisiveness and comittment is very important right now.

Modicum of success? Name one team that we have beaten in three years that we shouldn't have. Come on. I am waiting.

I'm not Brewster's biggest supporter but, he's our coach next year.

Oma's Haus

CB...someone must have given you a bad piece of schnitzel from Oma's Haus (good restaurant BTW down near where CB is).

Beating teams you are supposed to beat is a modicum of success. I would submit that beating MSU was a tossup as was IL last year.

Why did I even respond to you?!!?!!?

-I think most people ,including myself, would say they supported every coach that coached here and wanted them to succeed for the programs sake.
- Let's face it, if Brewster doesn't work out the U is going to have to quit fooling around with this program and hire a Tubby Smith type FB coach who has been there done that. This hiring coaches such as the Brewsters, Masons and the Wackers of the world is not going to do it any longer for this program which is in a mediocre rut that we may possibly never get out of.

Northwestern was a good win for Brewster. I know that sounds stupid, but that's an 8-4 team who went 5-3 in the B10. They may be a much better team now than when the Gophs beat them, but all that counts is the W or L.

Agree that MSU was a tossup, and I believe MSU was favored at TCF bank stadium, so thats a pretty good win.

how many coaches are out there that have 'been there, done that' that would want to take the job at the U. The HC position has become a lot more attractive at Minnesota with the new stadium, but its not like quality, proven head coaches grow on trees.

I will say, though, that if the Brew experiment doesn't work out I think the U will go in the direction of a coach who has at least had head coaching experience.

I agree that a top, proven coach needs to be the next hire, should Brewster not succeed. The Big Ten is a respected football conference, and requires top talent, coaching, and execution to win. Regardless of how long it's been since our program has been respectable within the conference (let alone the country), many other schools similar in size, population, etc (such as Wisconsin) have proven it's possible to compete on a regular basis. To roll over and accept mediocrity, Mr. Maturi and some of you blind fans, is unacceptable. We want to win... again:

National Titles:
7 Michigan
6 Minnesota
5 Ohio St
2 Penn St
2 Michigan St
2 Illinois

Big Ten Titles:
42 Michigan
34 Ohio St
18 Minnesota
15 Illinois
11 Iowa
11 Wisconsin
8 Purdue
8 N'western
6 Michigan St
3 Penn St
2 Indiana

Kentucky fired their basketball coach after TWO seasons. Boy, they sure couldn't get anyone else to coach there because they fired their coach so soon. Yeah, that is great logic. You are a moron.

Gee, how much are they paying their old coach? Wait, isn't there a lawsuit? How much are they paying their new coach? How much do we pay our football HC and assistants combined?

Halsey you use great logic too. Kentucky fired what 1 coach in 20 years and you want to compare that to Minnesota? In a little under 20 years the U will have fired 5 coaches. Great comparison. Difference being Kentucky had an in for a great coach, can we get an in and get a great coach for once.

HH, BB is alot different sport than FB. I think another option for the Idiot (Maturi) is to tear up TB's contract and give him a new 3 yr. deal instead of an extension.

Okay stop and think. Here's a list of the most recent Gopher coaches with the previous coach's last 3 years, the listed coach's first 3 years and their overall record (this is Big Ten only, so as to keep SoS as consistent as possible):

Coach --- prev 3 - first 3 - career
Holtz ----- .185 -> .455 -> .455 (2 years!)
Gutey ---- .455 -> .364 -> .396
Mason --- .125 -> .333 -> .400
Brewster- .417 -> .250 -> .250
Wacker -- .417 -> .250 -> .200

See a problem here?? Holtz turned a Salem team that had 1 Big Ten win it's previous two seasons into a 4-4 (7-9 in two years) Big Ten team the second year. Gutey was no Holtz, but he maintained a 40% Big Ten win rate at least.

Wacker demolished that to a 3-21 final three seasons (each 1-7). What did Mason do? Erased those 3 consecutive 1-7 seasons and went 5-3 in his third year. When Mason left, the Gophers were 3-5/4-4 the previous years (certainly not a bare cupboard), and Brewster has yet to equal that in three seasons. His numbers are more closely resembling Wackers.

Now before I call him Geezo-Beezo #2, I'm all for letting the man coach another year, albeit likely his final year. It's not his fault he had a coordinator leave, but it is his fault for showing another the door. Bottom line is, after year three -- he really hasn't had three years with his current scheme (which reflects poorly on him) to know if he will make the step. He's basically equal to a second year coach. In other words, he needs to win 4 Big Ten games next year to deserve an extension (2 years at best):

vs N'western
at Wisconsin
at Purdue
vs Penn St
vs Ohio St
at Mich St
at Illinois
vs Iowa

Eh? I give him 3 wins at best. See-ya, Beeza!!

To try and say that Kentucky basketball and Minnesota football are comparable in either expectations or resources is laughable. Before you resort to calling others names you may want to look in the mirror.

I get really tired of people asking for a "Tubby Smith" type to replace Brewster. Guess what people? Nick Saban, Urban Meyer, Pete Carrol, Jim Tressel, Bill Cowher, Tony Dungy etc. are not walking through the door. We flat out don't have the resources or prestige to make that kind of a hire. If we fire Brewster he is going to be replaced with a Dan McCarney type.

I know it won't be easy to get a top notch coach. Maybe I should just accept mediocrity and just hope some day that one of these average or below average type unproven coaches will hit it big.

I agree, they will at least go for a head coach, and I know it won't be easy to get the one that the U would like to come here that can win and win consistently. Maybe I should just accept the mediocrity and get over it.

Did someone honestly compare Kentucky basketball with Gopher football? Hahahahahaha.....sometimes this site is more humerous than anything on the net.
