When are we ever going to use our home field advantage?

People don't realize how loud TCF Bank Stadium is. There have been numerous off-sides and procedure calls against the opposing offenses when the place is not full. Imagine if you have a full house and everyone is standing and yelling. Will we ever learn?

Go Gophers !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've always been curious on how loud our stadium is compared to other similar ones. It's hard to gauge that without actually going to other stadiums... I wanna say it's pretty loud, but since the west end zone is open, idk.

Isn't that what the Syracuse game was all about? Full house, very loud causing a few off-sides. You must have missed that game.

was at this game and proud to be part of it. the crowd definitely had an impact on this one. it was a blast.

TCF can be loud (Syracuse game for example), but the entire thing feeds off the student section. When they don't turn out, it's a relatively calm atmosphere, which I don't think any of us want for a football game. When the students don't show up, it's a really old fan base and I'm not blaming the old timers at all, but it often takes a little to get them rowdy. I've been told to sit down many tmes when I was standing on relatively important 3rd downs. I can't be too harsh on them because at least they show up.

We do kind of use it. As FBT wrote earlier this week, we're undefeated in home games where the kickoff temp is 44F or below.

I have season tickets and am at every game. And, I had a field pass for the Western Michigan game. Being down on the field during the 2nd half, it got really loud and hard to hear anything. And, if I remember correctly, the student section wasn't too spectacular that game and it was certainly very loud without a full house!

So, like an earlier poster said, the students are the key! If they are engaged and making noise, it is like a domino effect. Everyone else gets involved.

If the Syracuse game atmosphere could be duplicated every week... we'd really have something. As Bob pointed out, it all starts with a full student section.

I have been to all the stadiums in the Big Ten at one point or another. From a noise standpoint TCF stacks up really well against the stadiums that are similar in size because of the way it is laid out. Obviously it can't compete with the places that hold twice as many fans from a pure noise perspective.

Where we had an advantage that was never really capitalized on was when we were at the dome. That place could have been the loudest stadium in college football but it wasn't do to low turnout and lack of fan energy.

We have used it. Significantly in 3 games that I can recall - Air Force (stadium opener), Michigan State (remember the crazy Tow-Arnett fumble/pitch to D'uane for TD), and most recently, Syracuse. All night games.

I also recall the stadium getting pretty damn loud during the Cal and USC games when we were in it and had a chance to win.

As others have said, winning will help create some consistency in the homefield advantage. Students will show up more when the games become more meaningful.

Who did we lose to when it was 45? :D

Was trying to figure it out, and I'm pretty sure it was Wisconsin 2009. I distinctly remembered that being a cold one, but it might have been compounded by the rain.

The Cal game was great. It sucked to lose but the energy/electricity in the stadium that day was great and I think that is an often-overlooked game in terms of "best atmosphere" games during the short history of the Bank.

High point was the Gray TD pass from Decker. Following series I think we had them pinned deep and were about to sack QB, Cal was offsides. Redo the play and they get a first down. )*()#*@)*#()@*#)

Yup. It was so loud that no one on the field could hear the whistle from the false start. 3rd and 16 and Cal gained 35 yards on a pass. :banghead:

Yep, that Cal game was probably easily the best 11am atmosphere we've seen so far. It was ridiculous on that 3rd down play where they got the false start and it was so loud nobody could even hear the whistle. And then converted 3rd and 16 and it all went to pot lol.

If we can get to that type of moment in the game this weekend, I like our chances better this time around (meaning get to the 4th in a tie game lol).

The formula for jug game victory seems to be... tie game in the fourth, improbable run setting up game winning kick.

We're currently 12-14 at home, which is actually pretty good considering we've had back to back 3-9 records.

Yep! It was the 2009 Wiscy game. Temp at kick was 45°F.

The next "warmer" game we lost was in 2010 to Ohio State, when the temp at kick was 46°F.
