about tOSU and Arkansas matchup?

Hope all of you had a Merry Christmas and have a Happy New Year.

I think everyone thinks that tOSU should be sending their JV to the game to play. They are the one Big Ten team I hope gets killed.

Illinois keeping up the BIG10 reputation against Baylor. Baylor's just danged lucky they aren't facing us tonight.

Is Brewster coaching at Illinois? One of the Illini just shouted, "This one's for the Illinois Nation!" Didn't even know they had one.

I bet I can guess another one. :D

I'm torn about OSU and Arkansas.. I'm a Big Ten guy (minus Wisconsin and sometimes Iowa) so I always want the conference to win. But I have a TON of family in Arkansas and liked the Hogs when I was a kid (only because of said family.. I didn't know a thing about football).. I guess that game will be a wash for me.

I'm not torn. Arkansas is my favorite SEC team and at least some of that is due to Delta and his fine contributions here. I have also softened on my overall SEC venom after getting to know a couple coworkers from Alabama (one is a 'bama fan and the other is an Auburn fan). So, I am softening in my old age. But, all that being said... I still want to see the Big 10 do well so I would prefer to see an Ohio State victory.

Much of the the broad brush used to paint the picture of the "Big 10 can't compete with the SEC" myth is due to Ohio State's unique struggles with teams from the SEC. A Buckeye win would help end that myth. The Big 10 and SEC have been amazingly close in bowl results over the past 10 years or so (a one game advantage for the Big 10, I think) but nationally it is rarely acknowledged because of Ohio State's struggles in the most visible games.

Arkansas will be a handful, no doubt. Plenty of power there to beat the Buckeyes outright. Will all the Ohio State distractions (pending suspended players) further stack the deck against OSU? It should be a great game and I'm really looking forward to watching it.

Delta, you taking the 3.5 points in this one? Whats your feeling? Tough to gauge these cross conference bowl matchups. Ark has done me well all year ATS, I think I gotta keep riding them.

Delta, good to hear from you

I was really hoping Arkansas would find their way into a BCS bowl and now I'll be cheering for them. I'm not really a Vikings fan, but I'm also hoping Mallett falls into their lap this spring. Lately I've heard some people saying he's a little nuts in the head, any legs to that? I've even heard a Ryan Leaf comparison. Hopefully he's cool, it's been a while since I've seen a QB who can throw on the move like that.

He's a little cocky at times but he is also very passionate.

He needs to work on accepting the fact that he isn't going to throw a touchdown
or completion on every play. He has a issue sometimes with trying to force thrown
instead of just throwing the ball away and getting a chance to throw it on the next down.

My belief is that tOSU will thump Arkansas though I will be cheering for Ark. I think suspending players for next year but not for the bowl is one of the most insane NCAA decisions of all time.

To be fair, I don't see alot of SEC so maybe I am underestimating the Hogs.

I am very nervous about this game.
Personally I don't know that Arkansas stands a chance against tOSU.
But I also thought LSU would beat us.

The key to an Arkansas victory is going to be scoring more points than tOSU.
Haha.

But seriously I think if we can run the ball we can win the game.
There is no doubt we are going to give up some points.
If we run the ball and control the clock I think we will do OK.

Petrino

is up there with some of the coaches I cant stand due to some of his previous actions. I would have a hard time pulling for one of his teams. He is on the list with Bielema--Saban--Carroll--and the Auburn head coach that i cant spell---kicking Iowa state in the groin after such a short time.

You are not in the minority for sure.
A lot of people have the same thoughts about him.
I gained more respect for him when he signed his new contract.

That being said we are glad to have him.
But I see where you are coming from.

OSU vs Arkansas

You can power run against OSU but very few teams can throw against them. Their D line isn't the greatest according to OSU standards so I imagine Mallett will have time to throw. The OSU secondary however is awesome. OSU has a knack for turning entire games on a pick 6 or two.

Arkansas's defense doesn't do much for me at all. I expect that OSU should score in the 24-31 range. Can Mallett avoid the big INT that killed him against 'Bama? That to me is where the game will be decided. If Mallett can avoid turning the ball over I they can win a close one.

PS- Don't forget that the Vest is O'fer vs SEC teams in the BCS.

My wife being from Ark. I will be pulling for the Hogs. Petrino does bother me, but tOSU bothers me more than Wisconsin at times. PA on KFAN was talking about QB's for the Vikes and he has heard comparisons to Ryan Leaf, as in bad things.

The NCAA letting tOSU's 5 players play in this game bothers me more than any feelings I have about Petrino. I'll be cheering for the Hogs, but not holding out much hope.

This games wreaks of.......

bad karma for the Buckeyes. I may come out of betting retirement to back Arkansas. Mallett will make or break his NFL draft status with this game against a staunch OSU pass defense. My bet is he soldifies his position as a top 10 pick.

As another poster noted this is not a vintage Buckeye D-line, they aren't 7-8 deep with insanely athletic and experienced playmakers up front the way they normally are. That was evident when, this year, for the first time in the Tressel era we saw a Big Ten team (no need to mention the specific team name here) line up I-formation, and just run it up the Buckeyes collective A$$ all day.

That said, most teams were unable to run it much on the Buckeyes, and the scarlet and gray is just plain nasty in the back 7. I predict this one comes down to TP. If he plays like he did in the Rose Bowl last year, you guys are gonna have a hard time hanging around. I can't imagine you put up more than 28 on that D, even with Mallett's self-described 'family arm'. But if TP plays only average, Arkansas will be able to key on stopping the run game which should keep it interesting.

Every now and then I get it right...why didn't I bet on this game?
