I have NFL network but someone was complaining that they didn't and I told them I though it might be on Comcast. What's the latest? (Yes, I am too lazy to find the thread - that doesn't surprize you about me, does it?)

I can confirm that it comes with Comcast in the SW suburbs - channel 180 and 181. Kickoff's 5 PM.

This is from Joel Maturi via e-mail today:

"I do not believe it is being televised locally. Not good for Gopher fans. I believe last year with NFL Network but no help to us. There are some watch gatherings at a few bars/restaurants.

Happy New Year!

Joel Maturi"

Go Gophers!!

I think Joel means it is not being picked up (rebroadcasted) by a local station. Still on the NFL network, which is carried by Comcast as pointed out.

Yep, I think FJ's right. The guide function on my cablebox has the game being shown.

Sorry for any confusion, yes, I believe Joel meant it is on NFL Network, but it won't be picked up by a local station like it was in the past.

If you have the NFL Network, you are fine, if not, it's bar time.

Go Gophers!!

Add NFL Channel for about $5

I don't normally carry the NFL channel but I called Comcast and added it for the game. It is about $8 or $9 ( I don't remember ) per month but they only charge you for the days you have the package. I will cancel the day after the game so it wil cost me less than $5 to watch. If you have Comcast this is an alternative for you

good point.

also, don't other cable providers (that are not comcast) offer the NFL Network on their extra "sports tier" and pro-rate how many days you have it? so if you have charter, mediacom, etc. then i think adding the nfl network for a day or two may be an option as well.

the good news is that this past summer comcast added the nfl network to their expanded basic (and above) digital cable package. comcast is THE cable provider for 90% of the minneapolis/st. paul metro. so if you have at least expanded basic digital cable from comcast you should be good to go for the game without having to add their "sports tier" for a day or two.

when does the nfl network's deal with the insight bowl end? this year? i heard the nfl network wanted a bowl game to help bring awareness to the new nfl network a few years back when it was in its infancy and that is why the insight bowl ended up on the nfl network as opposed to espn, abc, cbs.

Charter has no agreement of any type with NFL network.

I'm going to try and pick it up on Justin TV.

Anyone have an idea if it will be there?

i am so glad i live in the metro and have comcast. everything i hear about charter and mediacom is that both of them just plain suck ballz in terms of cable service and channel availability.

not sure about justintv. i have heard of that site, but never really use it. if i was you i would be heading to a bar or restaurant that has the game available.

There's nothing worse than trying to watch a game you want see in a noisy bar. Even in my younger days that was the last option.

try finding one of those bars/restaurants that have those little personal tvs at each table! ;)

in my younger days there used to be some places like that around minneapolis and st. paul proper where you would throw a quarter into the set and could watch whatever you wanted for like 15-30 minutes at a time while eating.

You can add "smoke filled" to the bar adjectives, at least in Wisconsin. I do not look forward to that. Keeping my fingers crossed for justintv

I was able to watch the bowl game last year from my living room but I dumped DirecTV. Jerks! Now I have Charter and they offer zilch, as usual.

Whoa!!! Bronko, you are a lot older than I would have guessed. That stuff went out with "Pong".

I have Charter.
Good service, but no NFL Network.
I was told months ago (by a Charter rep) that a deal was "imminent."
Still waiting.
I'm heading to Phoenix.
My friends are watching at Sneaker's in Duluth.
Last year that place was a blast for the Kansas game. Good place to start New Year's Eve.

Justin tv

Last night I watched the Texas A&M-Georgia game on Justin.tv, and it was fine.
Provided somebody is carrying it- and somebody likely will- it should be on
Justin tv and you should be able to watch the game comfortably with your
computer.

What's your experience been with the video quality on JTV?

Its been smoke free in Madison/surrounding communities for so long now that I always forget that the rest of WI does not get to share in my happy clear lungs.

I'd be bar bound myself (I also have worthless Charter) but the New Year's party I'll be at is in the home of an AT&T U-Verse customer.

JUstin tv quality

If you keep the screen small within the browser, the definition is extremely good.
Audio is the same- its the same broadcast that people see.

You can opt to go full screen- which reduces the picture contrast somewhat but
is okay if you're across the room.

All in all, the bottom line is you can see and hear the game.

I've posted this before but I'll post again:

In response to the "I don't get NFL Network" posters.

If you have cable or satellite:

1. Call your service provider and ask to upgrade to the package that has NFL Network.
2. Watch the game.
3. Call your service provider and tell them you want to downgrade to the package you had before.

You will most likely be charged for one day of service at the higher package and maybe a downgrade fee but the cost of that vs. going to a bar and spending money on food and drinks is minimal.

Unless you would rather go to a bar to watch it.

Just another option.

Won't work for Charter customers as Charter lacks the NFL Network period. It is not on any level of service. It's a bar or switch providers entirely for Charter customers.

Tried out Justin TV an hour or so ago. Hit their search button for NFL Network and clicked on. Quality wasn't too bad-better than BTN.com. Definitely watchable. So that's my plan.

BTW as I was viewing they were running a show on NFL biggest home field advantages. The Vikes and the old Met Stadium was one, about a ten minute feature.

Can I come to your house to watch? Only option here is the VFW and that is pretty much ruled out after my performance on July 4th.

I'm northwest of the Cities, and can arrive via snowmobile, four wheeler or grandma's Ford Focus.
