Head Coach: Check

Everything else: ?

Are people assuming that our longest-tenured coaching staff will look basically the same next year? Will their loyalty to Kill transfer to Claeys?

I'm certainly not trying to incite panic, and I know nothing. I'm just wondering what people think. There is going to be a lot of shuffling this off season across the land. Will that include our staff?

It'll be interesting. I would think they all stick around, with Sawvel elevated to DC and a new DB coach brought in. Without Kill around though, and with Claeys on an affordable contract, they should have some money to spend to bring in a quality assistant if they choose to mix things up a bit.

The coach pays the assistants from a $$$ pool that is already set. If he wants to pay more, he pays the directly from his salary.

It will be interesting to see what happens with the coaching staff. Not only was the current staff loyal to Kill he was also loyal to them. Will the staff be as loyal to Claeys? Will Claeys be as loyal as Kill to the staff? I would guess there will be some movement but probably not much.

My gut tells me no one leaves or is fired, but they may shuffle some responsibilities.

Claeys was making decent money as DC though, $600K I believe, wouldn't that money be put back into the pool?

My prediction will be little to no change on the offensive side of the staff. On defense, Sawvel to DC makes a ton of sense and then they will most likely promote someone from within (Nunez maybe) to be a defensive coach. Biggest question will be who assumes the main special teams responsibility. As it stands right now I believe Sawvel is the primary special teams coach and by all accounts Kill was very involved in that facet of the game as well. If Sawvel goes to the DC role someone else will need to take on the top Special Teams role.

Overall though I would expect next years staff to look very similar to this years staff with a few people in slightly elevated or modified roles.

As for loyalty, we may see more movement on the staff now that Kill is no longer in charge but overall most of these guys have been together for a long time so I would think they will be content to stay put unless an offer comes along that is just too good to pass up.

Maybe we will see a new Coach taking over the Offensive Line while Linegrover handles the OC exclusively.

I wouldnt expect many changes since the staff has been together for so long. Oline, d coach and secondary are most likey though. I wouldnt expect more than that.

Is TC close enough to the program and does he have the skillset and desire to coach the DBs? If so, that would bring even more credibility to what has become a foundation of our squad.

I agree. Looking for specialty help on special teams, o-line, or defense to help with shifting of Claeys and Sawvel.

This is what I am hoping to see

In today's game of football, Offensive line is too important a position to have a coach split responsibility's, in my opinion.
This is the major change I am hoping for a dedicated offensive line coach. I'm not talking about past coaches either, I want to see a qualified O-line coach added so that we can start having lines like Wisconsin and Iowa. There is no reason this cannot be a great position of players at Minnesota, we should have as good a lines as those two schools.

Follow him on Twitter, he's wanted to be a coach for a while...

My sentiments as well. I've said it a lot this season, but I have less trouble with Limegrover as OC than I do as OL coach. Maybe it's a lack of time, but we need to get a OL coach who is going to really develop guys. I don't see that happening right now. Injuries have contributed to the problem, but I just don't see development from the healthy guys either.

I'm also starting to question Eric Klein's ability as the strength/training coach. I just don't see the product that was advertised when Kill took over the program. Part of it is the concentration on quickness over bulk on the DL, but we've got to get bigger on the defensive front. We can't rely on stunting as much as we do. At some point, you have to succeed at playing straight-up man-on-man football in the trenches.

So with Kill retiring, assuming nobody else leaves, there is 1 spot open. If we hire an OL coach, is Sawvel going to coach DBs and be coordinator? Who will pick up the special teams duties? This could work, but so many people forget there are limits on the number of coaches. If we split Limegrover's role, others need to pick up the other duties.

As far as Klein, I am not qualified to know, but our teams do seem to be more athletic than before he came here

Right now we have 5 offensive coaches so I don't see them bringing in another one on the offensive side. If you do, that would mean there are 6 offensive coaches and 3 defensive coaches. You can count Claeys on the defensive side to some extent, but he wouldn't be able to devote 100% of his time to the defense.

I could be wrong, I just don't see it happening.

With Limegrover in the box on game day, who actually coaches the OL on the sidelines?

I'd love to get Carter more involved in the program. Has he done any coaching yet? Has he put in his 'dues' to be qualified to be a coach at the B1G level? I care less about this than others but curious.

Not to sure how much he does but Trevor Olson a 3rd year graduate assistant coach works with the OL. Northern Ill player.

I'm expecting things to stay the same for the most part. Obviously there will be 1 coaching position open, it's possible they just promote Jay Nunez like they have for the remainder of this season. I'd be pretty shocked if Claeys lets anyone go.

My guess is Reeves works with the OL a little as well. He's the TE/H-Back coach so it would make some sense.
