Tubby was fired on Monday.

That about sums it up. Past that, we know absolutely nothing to be fact in regards to this hiring.

I'm with Crazy Joe on this one; lots of posturing right now, still, and lots of agents making the best of the situation for their clients. Until I hear something directly from the Athletic Department, from Teague and company, I'll sit back and wait. Some of the things floating out there that people are actually believing are just amazing.

Exampe: I would bet a MONTH's salary that Shaka Smart was never a candidate for this position. With their prior relationship, Teague and Ellis know TWO MONTHS ago, if not six months ago, if Smart was ever seriously interested in this gig. If Teague just found out this week that Smart wasn't interested, he's not fit for the AD position at Winona State, much less Minnesota. If anything, I would bet that Teague did what he could to HELP Shaka get a nice fat raise and a list of demands for his former coach from VCU. If that meant letting the rumors fly about the Gophers pursuing, then so be it. Bottom line, Teague's known for a long, LONG time whether or not Smart was interested. He was never a serious candidate. Period.

For that matter, I don't believe any of the other candidates mentioned as "turning it down" were ever formally offered the position.

We'll see how this plays out. At this point, I'm not worried in the least.

i agree that teague probably has known about shaka's intentions, but i've read your posts on here for years and i know you are much smarter than the rest of your take that teague did what he could to help shaka get a few hundred thousand more. come on, and to inflate expectations for his own job and take the national pr hits that he took. no way jose canseco. too much vegas sun for you.

Completely agree with this thread. I have quickly grown to hate the phrase "according to sources." It's such a huge cop out. Believe nothing that you hear and half of what you see.

Well said Ogee, Maybe I am optimistic but until you are actually in Teague's ad group you really have no idea what is going on. Lets wait and see and stop freaking out

I wonder what percentage of these kind of tweets/articles actually end up being true. I'm guessing it is less than 50%.

Well said. Look no one was even mentioning Alford to UCLA and he ends up being the coach.

And their fans, former players, boosters are all pissed.

Just like the Penn St. alumni and fans were at the Bill O'Brien hiring and they sure shut up quickly.

Not sure why people do this. One can always find an example of a situation that works or a situation that doesn't. So I'll play as well. The Boston Red Sox fans were pissed when Bobby Valentine was hired. They never shut up. We can all play this game all day.

Scoffs at Woodward and Bernstein.

I guess my point was that just because a coach is hired out of no where or isn't a popular hire doesn't mean it will always end up being a bad hire.

What we know is that our fanbase has its fair share of idiots. There is now a FireNorwood Twitter account.

Exactly. It's like they say about recruiting, you can't grade a recruit/hire until you've seen them in action. .

Anonymous "Mouse in the corner" reported to me what he overheard:

Teague to Flip: "Wanna talk Gopher Basketball?"
Flip: "Can't, too busy."

Summary given to me from my Mouse: "Flip declined Teague."

Enfield and Buzz can now talk as of now. Marshall maybe in 120 minutes?

I really hope Marshall loses, I think he's the best of the somewhat realistic candidates. I did hear an interview with him on Sports Talk Radio a couple nights ago (I think the Ben Maller? Show) and he said something about Wichita State being a top 10 job in the country. Hopefully he was just talking it up.

Livid. They had unrealistic expectations though. UCLA sees itself as a Kentucky, Kansas, Duke, UNC.

Fortunately, they don't need a basketball building as opposed to some school near Minneapolis. They can wait to see if Alford performs.

It's not that they are being compared to UK, KU, Duke, UNC.

It's that they compare every coach they have to the greatest one ever.

Nicely done, Honkers! That made me laugh out loud. Good call!
