Tubby was fired on Monday.
That about sums it up. Past that, we know absolutely nothing to be fact in regards to this hiring.
I'm with Crazy Joe on this one; lots of posturing right now, still, and lots of agents making the best of the situation for their clients. Until I hear something directly from the Athletic Department, from Teague and company, I'll sit back and wait. Some of the things floating out there that people are actually believing are just amazing.
Exampe: I would bet a MONTH's salary that Shaka Smart was never a candidate for this position. With their prior relationship, Teague and Ellis know TWO MONTHS ago, if not six months ago, if Smart was ever seriously interested in this gig. If Teague just found out this week that Smart wasn't interested, he's not fit for the AD position at Winona State, much less Minnesota. If anything, I would bet that Teague did what he could to HELP Shaka get a nice fat raise and a list of demands for his former coach from VCU. If that meant letting the rumors fly about the Gophers pursuing, then so be it. Bottom line, Teague's known for a long, LONG time whether or not Smart was interested. He was never a serious candidate. Period.
For that matter, I don't believe any of the other candidates mentioned as "turning it down" were ever formally offered the position.
We'll see how this plays out. At this point, I'm not worried in the least.
