Comparing the gophers to other NCAA teams who make some noise. A team like Kansas St., post Beasley, has been making the tourney more times than not with hardly a 4* recruit. They have a bunch of 3* guys who play 4 years.
I think depth is an issue with the style Pitino wants to play. He has time but we need good players every year who can be part of the rotation besides a stud impact guy every class.
We are a very small team. If you are going to be undersized on all 3 perimeter spots you need a dominating rebounder and shot blocker. We are not only not that tall, except EE at center, but we have a genuine lack of muscle. MO has some, but EE, Buggs, Austin, and King are all skinny.
From what i see and hear Martin is a good athlete and has a big ten frame. Mason and Morris? I really hope we can get Jarvis and Illikainen in 2015. Jarvis for his speed and athleticsm and Illikainen for his skills and athleticsm. Alex could play the 5 if needed, but he seems like an ideal 4.
We still desperately need some muscle/athleticsm in the post. We also need some combination of athletic wings for defense and also ones who can score. Those that can do both are 4* guys so we may have to pick our poison.
