I thought we could help each other out by preparing some responses to the inevitable water cooler question we'll get tomorrow from people who know we have season tickets. I'll go first.

'Hey, Soth Dakota has just as many Senators as Nebraska!'

'We're still well positioned to win the Big Ten this year. Yesterday's loss doesn't hurt our chances.'

While at the Ren Fest, a guy noticed my shirt and said "I'm sure glad I was here in stead of there to witness that." He was refering to my TCF Bank Stadium shirt. - I answered honestly - "That is why I'm here." I was in serious need of some cheering up.

Thanks go to The Danger Committee for brightening my day.

Well, I guess the BCS championship is out of the ?.

"Back in 1995 Northwestern lost to Miami (OH) at home in game #2 and still went undefeated in the Big 10 on their way to the rose bowl."

The mention of this weird obscure fact will start their mind spinning as to why you even know this information. Then walk away quickly while they are pondering this before they get a chance to reply. They will be left shaking their head, and will soon forget about the Gophers' loss and also not even realize how the NW situation was not even close to the same situation as the Gophers are in now.

The other beautiful thing is that after the Gophers lose next week you can use the same line on a different group of co-workers. "NW lost to both Miami (OH) and USC in the same season and still went undefeated in the B10 and went to the rose bowl"

Tim Brewster is no Gary Barnett...

That's a slap in the face...

I find it best to tell the truth: we are monumentally ashamed of losing to South Dakota. The depth of our disappointment is immense. For Minnesota fans, losing to a school in a bordering state is always a colossal heartbreak.

We look forward to better days in the future. But if you (other teams' fans) are enjoying our disappointment so much, then soak it up while you can. You've (for the most part) earned it.

How bout Wisconsin went to the Rose Bowl after losing to Cincinnati - similar to Northwestern losing to Miami, Ohio in a year when they went to the Rose Bowl?

I know what you don't do. I wrote in my column that the Coyotes would likely be meeting up at the Subway in the Vermillion Wal Mart store to celebrate their victory and now all 8 people in South Dakota with computers are mad at me. Hope they don't ban me from the Corn Palace.
