What player do you think will have a breakout year?

It's a dead period, but why not have this discussion. I'm thinking a lot will go with Gray or Hageman, but I'm going with Malcolm Moulton. Kid just seems to have a chip on his shoulder, and I like it. He flashed some ability to get open, and I think he'll get over his drops he had last year.

Hageman seems obvious - he's an athletic specimen and he showed flashes of brilliance last year.

I'm also looking for someone on the O-Line, and maybe two of them, to stand out. Probably the Olson bros.

I was thinking about this topic too. Moulton is an intriguing candidate. He doesn't have any trouble getting open. If he can start catching the ball look out.

Marcus Jones

Gray with an improved line and passing accuracy + a fully healthy Jones (knock on wood) = breakout season

It is going to be our punter! I know who it is but I not going to tell you until later:rolleyes: Two other break out years that I expect not everybody is thinking about is Michael Carter and Tommy Olson.

It's a JUCO - Martez Shabazz will surprise everybody at CB with speed and ability to shut down Big 10 WR's.

I have Hageman as a more obvious pick and Campion as my dark horse. I'm really hoping it will be a running back because that would spell trouble for our opponents.

Michael Amaefula on defense. I was impressed with his pass rushing ability and pursuit last year as a true freshmen. On offense, Tommy Olson. People begin to know who he is this year, and he becomes all B1G as a junior.

David Cobb. I want to see a 220 pound back pound the rock.

The way Kill & Co have been pursuing Gillum for 3 years, I'm really hoping we'll see some indication of their acumen and some big things out of the juco running back.

Like others have said, Gillum and/or Cobb. We need a stud RB. Two would be even nicer.

I'm thinking Pete Mortell...
Punter isn't a glamour position, but #37 is my pick.

This is definitely the lowest bar for a breakout season. Nice choice...

Crawford-Tufts, Gray will be a better passer this year AND there is a vacuum of catches that will need to be filled, with nobody proven to fill them. Rabe/Jones will fill roles, but DCT could be junior year McKnight-like after Decker left.

I'm betting on Gillum. If the Gophers have a good year, it will be because one of the running backs steps up and becomes a large part of the offense. Kill's offenses are based around the run game and if this team wants to become bowl eligible, they can't do it by duplicating last year's running game.

I too think there may be a surprise at the punter position but it just might be an Australian if he enrolls here.

What do you guys think about Brandon Green? I think he has always had some talent, but has simply vanished for weeks at a time. He could be a nice surprise this year.

Since he's been pretty much invisible for his first 4 years, I have no expectation that he's going to put it all together this year and be any type of go-to-guy. Prove me wrong Brandon...

I don't know if that's necessarily true.

The guy missed an entire season of which he was granted a Medical Hardship Waiver. His other three seasons (2011, 2009, 2008) he was somewhat productive. He has averaged right around 20 receptions and and over 200 yards a season. I realize that isn't exactly setting the world on fire but you have to put some of that into perspective. His true FR and SO seasons he went for over 20 receptions and close to 300 yards. And last year, he wasn't real productive but he was our 2nd best WR and he was just coming off his injury.

I'm not saying that he lived up to his star ranking or that he's been super productive, but I think there is as much reason for optimism with Green as there is anyone on our offense.

15 catches last year for 190 yards and 1 touchdown doesn't do a lot for me, especially for a junior who has been in the program for 4 years. Hopefully you're right and the low production was due to him still recovering from the injury. Moulton, Jones, and DCT all had similar stats and it was the 1st year in the program for all 3 of them, so I think they all have a better chance of figuring it out and having a breakout year.
