I just wanted to see what people see that Michigan St. has that the gophers need to get to their level of play.

1. Rebounders, screen setters, physical players.
2. 3 point shooters who are also athletes.
3. Experience
4. A point guard who can create shots for people.

Looking at this list, I think with Trevor and Royce we will imporve at #1. And #3 comes with time. Not sure on #2 and #4?

I don't see Trevor as a Center. He's a power Forward. He'll be an improvement there.

Your point about setting screens is well taken. Our outside shooting gets no help there. If people like Hoffarber and Westbrook are going make 3's we have to get people in the way of the defense. They need more room. You can't just spot them up and hope they will stay open. They're to short.

Too short ?

hmmmm... Battle is 5'11" and Lucas is 6'. Blake is listed at 6'4", I dont think it is the short-factor as much as the not-so-quick factor.

We dont have a great guard. We seem to have average, role-playing guards at best.

We need a great guard and I dont see one yet.

bryant Allen he is going to be a stud..

Mostly at this point I just see a lot of continuity between years. It makes a big diff. We'll be there in a couple if the Tubster hangs around.

I really think tubby needs to incorporate Izzo's rebounding drills. We need to be alot more physical in all phases. Michigan St. just screens so much better than us. We don't have a lot of thick bodies.

What Michigan State has that we don't...

In a more general sense, the most basic things they have that we don't:

1) easy access to the talent-laden Detroit and Flint high schools
2) reasonably close access to talent-laden Ohio high schools
3) facilities that rival most any in the country

and, because of those, they have:

4) a recent tradition that is matched by very few

Izzo was especially helped when Michigan was placed on probation right after the Fab Five and they made two rather uninspiring hires for Wolverine head coaches. Izzo and MSU cashed in big time on that.

Prediction & keys:
Joseph takes over at point guard next year (and averages 9 points game) will be a big improvement.
The 3 big bangers holding their own in the point (most of the time) and we actually develop an inside threat.
And yes, someone(s) steps up and becomes a legitamate slasher and outside threat - no idea who that may be.
A functional offense.....

I'm not sure Tubby sees Joseph as a PG. More likely that Cobbs presses Nolen for playing time. I think Al will look better with more talent and experience around him. To early to write him off yet.

I agree, Joseph looked much better playing off the ball this year. I think that he will move from backup PG to backing up Westbrook instead.
