Okay, I need somebody in the know to clarify things for me with Craig Drummond.

I was just on the Illini scout website and apparently, Craig Drummond is either no longer committed to Illinois or is on the verge of not being committed to Illinois because of not being admitted to school.

The folks over there are saying that he's now down to a final three of Minnesota, Ole Miss and Tennessee. Some other guy says that he's down to Ole Miss and the Gophers. And now I hear he may be coming for a visit.

What is the truth here?? Does anybody know?? Thanks in advance!!!

Drummond...

he has an acceptable ACT score but some of his core courses were made up of correspondence courses. Most of those are not being accepted by the UI admissions.

Being a fellow Big Ten school, I would think that Minnesota might have the same problem getting him in. SEC schools seem to accept questionable classes more than Big Ten schools do.

Too bad - it would be a much better situation for all involved if the standards were the same.

either rivals or scout has this guy as the 3rd best pass rusher in america

and he is dangling out there with the likes of ole miss

something is up with this guy

He obviously would not be "dangling" out there if he had his academics in order. He has been a solid UI commit, but our admissions appears to be denying him entrance.

He is a very good prospect. He played zero high school games last fall. He was out all year with an injury.

Academics have always been his biggest problem. Illinois does not have the kind of "special" program that, for instance, Michigan State uses to get marginal students into school. I don't know what kind of programs Minnesota offers. Do you have a program to get marginal students into school? If you do, you might have a shot at Drummond.

To expect an SEC school to play on a "level" playing field when it comes to football is like spitting into a 150mph winds.

All they care about down there is winning in sports and especially in football. They'll let anyone into their schools if it means they'll be able to win a few more football games. And if they have to let their admissions standards lag to do so, their attitude is "who cares? We won football games because of it."

It's just the way things work down south.

Ole Miss actual ended up the year in the top 15 in both polls, and I've seen them projected as a top ten team going into next year (I know it's way too early to look at rankings for 2009, but it just points to the amount of talented young players on their roster). So, it's not like Drummond's desperately scouring the country looking for an offer. Ole Miss is a legit program these days

i was hoping we would end up here as i think we could use someone of his talent but according to rivals we are out. that sucks

Here is the updated story on Drummond. He wants to be a midyear guy. To that end, he took correspondence courses to finish his core requirements. Illinois would not accept them. Mississippi might. However, he would need to get down there in a hurry to start classes this week.

If he stays in high school and finishes his core classes this spring, I still think he ends up at Illinois. jmo
