Can someone please recount what actually happened with Gary Patterson during the last coaching search?
From what I remember and have heard, we offered him the job and he turned it down. After the Gophers moved on, I have heard Patterson had a change of heart, contacted the Gophers and said he actually wanted the job.
Apparently the response from the U was that unfortunately it was "too late".
First, is this essentially an accurate account of what happened?
Also, why did the U say 'no'. Did they have a signed contract with Brew? Did they have more of a verbal agreement or understanding with him and just didn't want to go back on that? Were they mad/insulted that Patterson turned them down and therefore said "no" out of spite?
I'd be curious to hear details if anyone knows more about this than I do...
