I'd be interested to get a little list going here, are there any "kill shots" ;) out there?

One that pops up for me is Turner Gill, any other ones you guys personally like?

Love Turner Gill as a coach and a person.

From the 4-7 Buffalo Bulls? Is he worth getting rid of Brew for?

I think he is regarded in the football community as a up and coming head coach. It has to be hard recruiting kids to come play for you when everyone knows you are gone soon?

That being said, does anyone have an update for Turner's coaching performance this season and the reasons for the lackluster results?

Who knows who will be available 2or3 years down the line...No use worrying about it now, because Brewster won't get fired for going .500

I think Brew could be a winner here, but he depends heavily on his coordinators. His own tendency is to bang his head against the wall - stubborn, bull-headed, unimaginaitive, loyal to certain "tough' players, etc. That's why he hired Dunbar, figuring Dunbar would bring some elegance, some imagination to the offense - but the spread proved (as at Michigan) to be a dubious offensive style for the Big Ten. If he had a decent OC and let him run the show (dump Davis) he' d have been 8-3 this year and most of us would be happy. The offense now is amateur night - a mess, and one of the worst in the nation, hands down the worst in the conference.

I'll let you know after next year when there's a chance that we may be looking for a new coach. Until then, it's a waste of brainpower that could be used for something useful to speculate.

I don't think Brew is going anywhere, but if we're just throwing names out there, how about Skip Holtz from East Carolina?

Geez, I LOVED the UConn Coach today down at South Bend...what an excellent running game they had and they are fairly new to Division 1. Go get that guy right now.

Let's get the Gonzaga coach. That team always seems to play better than their talent. They seem well coached and play a brand of ball that looks exciting to watch. Whoops, we already hired Dan Monson.

seriously...we should tell tony dungy, secretly of course, that is he ever wants to coach the gophers, we will clear house for him whenever he feels the need...that is of course after he gets done mentoring everyone in the world

Al Groh is probably getting the axe at UVA. He could be a good candidate.

Sid's guy Marc Trestman

I remember Sid talking about this guy when the Gophers were looking to get rid of Wacker.

Part of me is encouraged that their is so much anger over this season. The other part of me wonders where many of you were for much of the Mason era where it was obvious progress was not being made. This was yet another typical Glen Mason season. We were 3-5 in the conference, played poor late in the season, and will go to a minor bowl. We'd be 7-5 had we played a Mason cupcake special non-conference schedule, but we're 6-6 because we played Cal. It's the same thing. Brewster has not been so bad that he doesn't deserve to see his first recruiting class become upperclassmen.

What a great exercise!!

Hey, what the heck; if we're talking about things that will never happen in the next 14 months (like hiring a new coach), we might as well shoot for the moon.

Why not Jon Gruden or Bill Cowher?

Makes about as much sense as this thread

Kirk Ferentz. Maybe he's finally ready to go to civilization.

Well, Ogee, you've drawn me in. Time to get creative

If we have 14 months, perhaps we should dig Bud Wilkinson up. He's alumni, he's well rested, and 14 months should be more than enough time for the minds at the University to bet him reanimated. Of course, playing God might be against NCAA rules, but Maturi should do his due diligence before making a move.

It's not. But why stop at Bud? I feel like Murray Warmath is just waiting for another shot at taking the gopher nation to the rose bowl.

The difference, of course, being that Warmath would not need to be reanimated. Since he's still, you know, alive and all.

Turner Gill? Oh yeah, let's go for a guy that is 1-5 in the MAC this season. His fourth. he is playing with his guys and he is in 11th place in the MAC. Gill had one good season. One winning season. He has proven nothing. Let's fire a guy that is 3-5 in the Big Ten for a guy that has one win in the MAC. Oh yeah, the 1-5 guy is actually coaching his own recruits.

Tommy Tuberville or Phil Fulmer....at least they would get competent gameday oaching and attract a decent set of coordiators
