I realize we don't know how he'll do, so this is a grade on the hire, given the info as it is today, not on how his tenure will go.

B. Above average. Just how Minnesotans like it.

B+...the + stemming from the fact that I think it will help maintain the recruiting classes that Kill established and it doesn't really make the program start all over again. I think the guy knows his stuff and will keep the staff. I also think the players respect him which is important.

A. Its the right move. I was so happy with the news today. Far more people would be complaining if we went a different direction and all our recruits left. Lets keep the momentum going that Jerry started. This hire also guarantees that I will be renewing my season tickets. I wish I could click AA+.

Flashy is not the answer under these circumstances.

Near- and mid-term stability is key.

A.

An A would obviously mean a sure-thing in my opinion so I went B given that he has no head coaching experience at any level (of course he had the interim experience from 2013, but he has never had total control of a program before). I do believe Jerry has primed him for success. He seems to be much more of a player's coach which I think will resonate well.

A - best option given the current situation. Continuity of momentum.

B. You have to think in that short time the Gophers considered every possible option. Clayes sold himself through pushing the fact through current recruitment. We needed to name HC immediately to lock down these current commits and drive down some more. The staff is already in place and none of us want to restart all this again with a brand new staff/coach.

Section 148

A it's the right thing to do given the situation. It's gone through my mind, as I listen to Coach Claeys more, that he might just be a better fit for Minnesota, than Coach Kill.

No trolls voting yet? That's a surprise.

It is the sensible thing to do - building the Kill-Claeys program will need a few more years. Continuity is important. He has a lot of potential and the Gophers have played very well in the past two games against highly ranked teams. With six nationally ranked teams making up half the schedule this year, the won-lost record for 2015 is not indicative of what this coaching staff can do in the future. By the way, what is his email address at the U - I'd like to send a congratulatory note.

Needed the stability for the program and athletic department. That said I hope coach Claey's still tweaks the staff. Once your the guy in charge you have the right to have some of your own people on board. If he sees a better fit outside of the staff for defensive or offensive coordinator or quarterbacks coach, offensive line coach et all then he should have a right after the season to make changes.

Same can be said for the position coaches and coordinators, if they see opportunity or have opportunity elsewhere than they should have the chance to move.

One might say that today is like Christmas for Tracy.

I think it has to be an A

Given the circumstances, and the tremendous support from both current, and future players I think this decision was the best possible outcome. When he filled in for Kill a couple years ago, and again the past 2 weeks TC has always had the team ready to go. I really hope they can pull off a bowl game this season, but either way I am excited about the future of this program and I am glad the staff is staying for the foreseeable future.

A, considering the situation we were in.

We wouldn't be able to get a "top notch" coach because of all the openings and the timing.
We needed to act ASAP because of the decent recruiting class (I'm not sure if we can do much better than this year's class without another 3 or 4 years of a new coaching staff)

A. Only intelligent choice in the situation. Sign him now, secure recruits for next year, by the time we hire a new AD we should have an evaluation of Claeyes as a HC complete and contract is not so large that a buyout if needed is a big deal.

Seems the reasonable decision to make given the situation and the unlikelihood of being able to attract an A-List college coach to a pro sports and hockey market -- something we found when searching for replacements for Mason and Brewster.

It's not a grade, it's a true false question. Is hiring coach claeys the only logical decision you can make. True.

F. We will see a new coach in about 3 years. Hopefully they do a national search and with the stadium and athlete's village get a top-notch coach.

Why do you root for Minnesota to fail

I gave a B. A 4 year contract would have been an A.

B+. Only move that makes sense given the situation. I'm much happier today with Claeys as head coach than I was yesterday with no head coach.
