Just watching this team, the energy, and what Pitino is getting out of guys that are far LESS athletic than some of the guys we had last year (Mbakwe and Wiliams), what would have been the ceiling for last years' group?

I firmly believe that he would have turned Rodney into a force.

Rodney and Trevor would have been drafted and we would have made the sweet 16.

I'm not too sure. I never really saw a whole lot of basketball talent in Rodney, I more was of the opinion that he got along solely by his athleticism. I don't think he would have done much more for Pitino. Mbakwe on the other hand I think would have flourished under Pitino. Andre also seemed a lot better last year. I'd say we go as far as the sweet sixteen.

Rodney was born to play in Pitino's press. He would have had so many steals for highlight reel dunks it would meltdown ESPN's top plays.

Agreed; not a fan of the prior regime but the chemistry on this team seems 10X better

Waiting.....looking around......hmm, don't think he's here. Guess I will cover for him.

Oh I don't know, lead them to the best Gopher basketball season in 23 years?!?!?

Yeah, I think Rodney would have looked amazing in this system. I think a stretch 4 is actually ideal in Pitino's system, but Rodney's ability to run, rebound and play helpside defense, he'd have been in a force in this system.

Not only that, but I thought a lot of Rodney's hesitation was due to lack of confidence. Lack of confidence rarely seems to be a problem for anyone on this team. What could OTO have done last year with an ounce of confidence? Been a true presence off the bench? Wasn't he recruited as a great shooter? Look at the difference in his shot between last year and this. Even EE continues to look for shots, even when he misses. Last year he'd hardly put up a shot (though his motor hasn't changed).

Let's not get too crazy anti-Tubby here. He had some successes too - Al Nolen, DJ... and it's clear he wasn't recruiting a bunch of chumps, at least.

Other than Chuck Buggs and Wally Ellenson.

But Rodney isn't a stretch four:confused:

You won't see him because we won!!

Yep. That's my fault, it was a poorly worded sentence. What that sentence should have said is: "Although a stretch 4 is ideal in Pitino's system, Rodney's ability to run . . . in this system". Essentially, I don't think he would have been an ideal fit on offense (because he's not a stretch 4), but he would have looked amazing in the other facets of the system.

Yep, no b-ball talent at all. Here are his NBA D-league stats:
