Wouldn't it be funny if this is what Missouri fans are thinking, and they all show up in black?
Oh wait, that would never happen because we are the only program on Earth whose fans cower at the mere existence of fans with similar colors.
I tend to agree that we over think this a bit, but it stems from the reputation (locally, regionally and nationally) that Minnesota doesn’t have a large or loyal fanbase and that our fanbase doesn’t travel well. That’s coupled with the belief that the reputation for not traveling well has had an adverse impact on bowl selection in the past. Because of that background, we have a significant portion of our fanbase that feels that it is not only important to have fans in attendance, but also that we make it readily apparent to outsiders (people who see the crowd in person or on TV, people in the community where the event takes place, etc.) that there is a strong Minnesota turnout. When I go to a road game or a bowl game, I try to wear my Minnesota gear everywhere I go. It's amazing how many comments that generates.
Put another way, there is some importance placed on not only having a lot Minnesota fans in attendance, but also making it obvious that there are a lot of Minnesota fans in attendance.
