I'm curious what you all think will happen with the upcoming bowl game?

What you'd like to see?

What you'll think actually transpires?

Pick a winner of the bowl game match up.

Still hoping Detroit. I want a win.

Would not be at all surprised to end up in Santa Clara against Utah or Wazzu, whichever doesn't go to the Holiday to face Iowa.

If I had to guess, I would say Music City vs Tennessee.

However, there are many moving parts and I'm likely mistaken on all of it! lol

So much depends on whether the B1G gets one or two teams into the CFP.
THe Big Ten bowl pecking order has gotten more complex over the years with tiers and choices. If I understand it correctly, the Orange Bowl could pick the 3rd place team (assuming 1 in the playoff), but that means that the Citrus Bowl can no longer pick a Big Ten team (likely the 5th place team). I also understand that it is possible for a Big Ten team to go to either the Music City Bowl or the Taxslayer Bowl (better known as the Gator Bowl), but not both. My understanding is also that a 6-6 tem cannot jump a team that is 7-5 or better (but I don't know that for sure). I also think that the bowl representatives show their hands a little bit (by attending various games and/or "off the record" discussions with the press).
Having said all that, my gut feeling is that the Holiday Bowl really wanted us, but Iowa has been trending up and we stunk against the badgers, so if there is only 1 B1G team in the CFP, then I would guess that Iowa would go to the Holiday Bowl and we will go to the Music City Bowl (or - much less likely - to the Taxslayer Bowl).
If the 6-6 rule is true, then we cannot slip down to the Foster Farm, Pinstripe or Quick Lane Bowls (those will be Maryland, Northwestern and Indiana).
Sorry so long-winded.

No worries and nicely explained. MCB and Gator (Taxslayer) must select 3 teams from the B1G over the 6 year agreement. Iowa and Penn State played 2015,2016 Taxslayer so 2 MCB will be destination for B1G in 3 of next 4 years.

Receiving a "bid" is no more -- the league office dictates which teams go where. This is the third year of the current "tier" system for assigning bowls.

Tier 1 is the Citrus (Orange will negate this year), Outback and Holiday.
Tier 2 is the Music City (already indicated they will take Big Ten this year), Foster Farms and Pinstripe.
Tier 3 is the Quick Lane and Heart of Dallas.

I get the feeling the Music City isn't keen on having the Gophers return, but the league could put us there to get the best record vs. the SEC. But the higher-ranked opponent will likely be in the Foster Farms Bowl, and the Gophers have not ventured west for a bowl game in eight years. I think it's a coin flip.
