Gophers still holding on two top-50 wins. It's been way too long. No excuses and no reason Gophers shouldn't beat Purdue at home on Thursday. Until they figure out a way to win on the road, they CAN NOT slip up at Williams Arena, no matter the strength of the opponent.
It's time for the Gophers to step up and become relevant again, like we were in November. Lose Thursday and I'm afraid there's a reasonable chance February/March once again becomes "bubble time" in Dinkytown, certainly not what we envisioned back in October. Beat the Boilers and we will have survived the difficult early-season Big Ten schedule.
Tidbit #1: Big Ten leader Purdue currently has zero wins vs. teams in the top 50 of the RPI.
Tidbit #2: Save for Akron (still in the top 100), to date most of the nonconference opponents on the Gophers' schedule have been major disappointments. (here's looking most specifically at you, Western Kentucky & Wofford) WKU has imploded since its disappointing Puerto Rico Tip-Off performance, and Wofford no longer looks like the favorite to win the SoCon. That honor now belongs to Bobby Cremins' College of Charleston squad.
