Week 9 Big Ten Power Rankings

Buckeyes Wire chimes in:

4. Minnesota Golden Gophers (6-2, 4-1)

The reason for the ranking

Is there a team quietly having a better year than Minnesota? The Gophers control their playoff path in the West and notched another win this week over Northwestern on the road. This team seems to have a system that works and plays with just about anyone under P.J. Fleck.

SB Nation chimes in:

5. Minnesota

A decisive 41-14 win for the Gophers has them moving up the charts. The loss to Bowling Green will sting for the rest of the season, but a B1G West championship could help soothe things a bit.

247 chimes in:

5. Minnesota

Last week: No. 6

Last game: 41-14 win over Northwestern

Next game: Saturday against Illinois

Another win for the Gophers. Remember when people called for PJ Fleck’s head? Now, Minnesota is in position to potentially win the division and get to the Big Ten Championship Game. They don’t have a loss within the division, only to Ohio State from the East and a bad one to Bowling Green. But since then, the Gophers won four in a row with a favorable matchup against Illinois next.

Land Grant Holy Land chimes in:

4.) Minnesota (6-2, 4-1) | 41-14 Win Over Northwestern | Previously No. 6

After a few rocky weeks in the first month of the season, the Gophers have been rowing that boat and running that ball all the way to the top of the Big Ten West. P.J. Fleck’s team still needs to play Iowa and Wisconsin this season, but don’t be surprised if the B1G East champion ends up facing the Gophers in Indianapolis.

Wolverines Wire chimes in:

5. Minnesota

It’s kind of amazing that Minnesota has two losses because it appears like the Gophers are rolling. (We still didn’t forget that one of the two losses was to Bowling Green.)

Per usual, Tanner Morgan was unspectacular, while the running game was: It put up 308 yards on Northwestern. Minnesota plays Iowa in two weeks and Wisconsin in four — two games that are likely to determine whether the Gophers are legit or not.

Go Gophers!!
