STrib chimes in:

12. Gophers (3-2, 1-1): Aside from their opening field-goal drive at Ohio State, the Gophers mustered only 96 yards at No. 1 Ohio State. They should be — and must be — more productive against Purdue on homecoming night.

Go Gophers!!

Wolverines Wire chimes in:

13. Minnesota

This week: L, at Ohio State, 3-42

Previous ranking: 13

Hi/Lo: 13/13

We're not moving Minnesota for the unenviable task of facing Ohio State in Columbus at night. The offense surprisingly moved the ball right down the field in the first possession. From there, everything fell apart. The Buckeyes overwhelmed the Gophers in pretty much every way. OSU quarterback Julian Sayin looked more like C.J. Stroud than Kyle McCord or Will Howard. The offense struggled after that first drive and never really got going against that stout defense. Minnesota can get right against Purdue next week.

Go Gophers!!

Trojans Wire chimes in:

12. Minnesota Golden Gophers (3-2)

I think Minnesota is a solid football team that ran into a juggernaut. Ohio State's defense is as good as you'll find in the country, and their offense, when Julian Saying is playing well, is unstoppable. Still, it is unclear how good this Gophers team is.

Go Gophers!!

Purdue Exponent Chimes in:

12. Minnesota - (3-2, 1-1)

This Week: L, 42-3 to Ohio State

Next: Home, vs. Purdue

Minnesota was steamrolled by Ohio State putting up only 162 total yards of offense to Ohio State’s 474 total yards. The Golden Gophers will be looking to bounce back at home vs. a leaky Boilermaker defense on the ground and through the air.

Go Gophers!!

Badge of Honor chimes in:

12. Minnesota Golden Gophers: 3-2 (1-1)

The Minnesota Golden Gophers might be a halfway decent team this year under P.J. Fleck, but Saturday was a bit of a referendum for the program. No matter how good of a head coach Fleck may be, the Gophers are always going to come up short vs. the biggest baddies the Big Ten can offer. They got their skull dragged by Ohio State. It makes you wonder if Fleck is looking to skip town soon.

Go Gophers!!

Buckeyes Wire chimes in:

12. Minnesota

Last Week's Result: Lost 42-3 at Ohio State

Last Week Ranking: 12 ⇔ (no change)

Next Game: vs. Purdue

What goes into the ranking

You kind of know what you are going to get with Minnesota under P.J. Fleck. The Gophers will play solidly and beat average teams more often than not, but get publicly flogged by the really good teams of the league. Ohio State got out the whooping stick, and I don't know if I've ever seen the Minnesota head coach so dejected and lost for answers. We'll root for the Gophers to sneak into a bowl game again, and that's about the expectation these days.

Go Gophers!!

GBM Wolverine chimes in:

14. Minnesota 3-2

They were overmatched against the number one team in the nation, Ohio State, losing 42-3. They have a chance to rebound this week against Purdue at home.

Last Week: 11

Go Gophers!!

Ducks Wire chimes in:

12. Minnesota

Game Result: L 42-3 vs. Ohio State

Previous Ranking: 12

What's Next: vs. Purdue

Analysis: Though star running back Darius Taylor was active, he wasn’t much of a factor coming off injury, as he carried the ball just eight times for 12 yards. In all, the Golden Gophers finished with 162 total yards to the Buckeyes’ 476. They converted just one of 11 third-down opportunities as well, far from a winning formula and representative of the whooping they took in Columbus.

Go Gophers!!

12 seems to be a rough consensus and feels about right. Big Ten has a pretty well defined top and bottom and then there is a big jumble of teams that are probably pretty interchangeable. We are firmly in that jumble of teams that will start to sort itself out in the coming weeks as more teams go head to head.
