Teams get 1 point for each win over FBS opponents, .5 points for each win over a FCS opponent, and 1 point for every defeated opponents' wins. For example, the Gophers have 8.5 points through Week 5. ... 3 FBS wins = 3, 1 FCS win = .5, Middle Tennessee State = 2.5, San Jose State = .5, and Michigan = 2. For simplicity, teams with a win over a FCS opponent only get credit for .5 wins; they do not get more points for additional wins by the defeated FCS opponent (in the Gophers' case, Eastern Illinois).
