Nittany Lions Wire first out of the gate:

5. Minnesota

Last game: Won vs Western Illinois, 62-10
Last Week: 6
Minnesota has also handled their business with two easy games to start the season. Minnesota has outscored their first two opponents 100-10.
Next game: vs. Colorado

Go Gophers!!

Wolverines Wire chimes in:

4. Minnesota

FCS team alert, but you cannot deny 679 yards of offense while holding the opponent to less than 200 yards of defense.

Minnesota absolutely rolled Western Illinois and got everything going — from the run to the pass and everything on the defensive side of the ball.

It appears as if the Gophers are the team to beat in the West, and given the schedule, they might get to the top with little resistance. Kudos to P.J. Fleck and company, because no one in that division wants to meddle with Minnesota at the moment. We’ll see how they do against Colorado next week.

Go Gophers!!

Buckeyes Wire chimes in:

4. Minnesota

Why the Ranking?

Minnesota has had two very impressive outings so far in 2022. The defense looks fantastic and while the offense won’t put up the numbers it has so far once Big Ten play hits, the Gophers have a solid running game that is complimented by an ability to work the ball downfield when needed through the air. Again, there are still stiffer tests ahead where we’ll know more, but the Gophers might be the class of the West from what we’ve seen so far.

Go Gophers!!

#3 Minnesota Golden Gophers (+1)

It may be tough to draw conclusions from Minnesota's shut-out win over New Mexico State and a blowout win against Western Illinois, but when you play weaker opponents the best thing you can do is destroy them, and that's what the Gophers have done.
Minnesota's offense has a balanced attack with Tanner Morgan at QB and RB Mohammed Ibrahim
returning after last year's injury. The West is wide open and Minnesota may have the tools to win it.

This clown thinks Rutgers is better than wi? As much as I want that to be true, he's obviously smoking crack!

The Gophers moved up to #23 in the overall power rankings.

Looks like there is a pretty clear consensus with the top six. OSU and Michigan at the top.....Minnesota, MSU, and PSU shuffled between 3-5.....and Purdue right behind. The only important observation....however.....is that these writers all now agree that Minnesota looks like the class of the West.

Noel chimes in:

3. Minnesota (2-0)
Last Week: #3

Tanner Morgan threw for 287 yards on 14 of 18 attempts and Mo Ibrahim had another game of rushing for over 100 yards. Minnesota’s defense gives up their first touchdown of the season as the Gophers roll Western Illinois 62-10

Next Up: Colorado

Go Gophers!!

They are still looking at a ranking behind OSU, Michigan, PSU AND MSU after the 2 cupcakes.

After an undefeated season vs Colorado we get our first chance to make some real noise.

Go Gophers!

VictoryBellRings, a Penn State fan page, graciously ranks us one place ahead of them at #4. They also said that the Gophers look like one of the more complete teams in the league.

But, what I particularly liked was this passage from their post about Iowa who they ranked #12:

Keep in mind, South Dakota State and Iowa State are two of the least talented teams on Iowa’s schedule. They still have matchups with Ohio State, Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin. If the offense continues to perform like this, Iowa will lose five or six games.

We're not used to other Big Ten fan sites listing Minnesota among these names as one of the league powerhouses. Gotta like that! Hope the boys deliver on their potential and that continues!

Iowa is in bad shape. Is there any reason to think they can turn it around and not be one of the worst offenses in the entire conference? I don’t see the talent outside of Bruce. It’s not like SDSU and ISU are defensive juggernauts.

Yes, it looks that way but I wasn't talking about Iowa. I was talking about how we've risen in the estimation of other Big Ten teams' fans.
