Week 13 Media Predictions Thread: wisconsin at Minnesota

The ones I've read are fairly evenly split

It's a coin flip. Gotta win the turnover battle.

Am I the only one surprised by the close line and number of people predicting a Gopher win?

R'UH R'OH....

Dienhart picked us....ugh

per Chicago Tribune:

Wisconsin (minus 2.5) at Minnesota: What's up with the sudden curse of the Badgers tailbacks? Go with the Gophers.

Go Gophers!!

Wow....Barrerio was ripping on the Chicago Tribune website and how difficult it is to navigate and get to a story. This was the first time I had gone to their site and when you follow the link you get multiple popups and it doesn't even take you where you were looking to go. I can totally see what he means.

Not surprised the media is pretty split on this one. Neither team has been overly impressive this season and overall I would say we are playing better then they are at the moment. This game feels like the definition of a toss-up. I just hope when the dust (or snow) settles tomorrow afternoon our guys are the ones running around with that friggin axe. It is long overdue.

College Football News

Why Minnesota Will Win

Remember when Wisconsin used to be able to run the ball? That was a long, long time ago – this team can’t do it. Not helped by the six sacks allowed to Northwestern, the Badgers ran for -26 yards last week in the loss and have just 1,520 yards on the season. To put that into perspective, that’s fewer than they ran for over the first five games of last season. This is a short-to-midrange passing team now, and that plays right into the hands of the Minnesota defense.

Player Who Matters

Is Shannon Brooks going to be able to do that one more time? The Minnesota freshman took off for 176 yards and a score against Purdue, and last week against Illinois he ripped off 174 yards and three scores on just 17 carries. Wisconsin’s defense isn’t going to let him do that, but he’s the star of the present, not just the future of the Gopher ground attack, and he needs to add a little flash to take the heat off of QB Mitch Leidner.

What’s Going To Happen?

Minnesota has stunk when it comes to the tight, emotional battles this year, but this time it’s going to come through. The defense will keep the Badger running game bottled up, Leidner will have a good enough game to go on two key scoring drives, and the Axe will finally come back to the Golden Gopher sidelines for the first time since 2003.

Wisconsin vs. Minnesota Prediction

Final Score: Minnesota 23, Wisconsin 20, Line: Wisconsin -3, o/u: COMING

Must See Rating: 5: Creed – 1: Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade … 3.5

per the Journal Sentinel:

JEFF POTRYKUS' PREDICTION

Minnesota will have every intangible advantage when it faces Wisconsin at TCF Bank Stadium. Jerry Kill, who stepped down as head coach last month because of health issues, will be in the house for Senior Day. The Gophers have lost 11 consecutive games to UW and have been pointing to this day for months. The teams are evenly matched, and UW's offense is coming off arguably its worst performance. UW's streak of domination ends Saturday.

Minnesota 14, Wisconsin 10
