Wolverines Wire first out of the gate:

5. Minnesota

That road loss at Iowa now seems like a distant memory since the Gophers managed to get a home rivalry win over Wisconsin.

Minnesota slowed what may have been the hottest team in the Big Ten, holding Braelon Allen and the vaunted rushing attack to just 62 yards. The Gophers couldn’t run the ball against Wisconsin’s stout run defense, but Tanner Morgan was efficient, and his 199 yards was just enough to knock off the presumed West representative in Indianapolis to ensure his rival stays home until the bowl game.

7. Minnesota Golden Gophers, 8-4 (6-3)

Previous Ranking: 8

Minnesota was oh so close to the four-way tiebreaker we talked about last week! Purdue took care of business against Indiana and the Golden Gophers themselves stunned Wisconsin. The final piece of the puzzle for a Minnesota Big Ten West title was an Iowa loss. Unfortunately, it was not in the cards as Iowa took down Nebraska. PJ Fleck did an admirable job this year and already knows he has Mo Ibrahim and Tanner Morgan back next year. Is some momentum building?

This seems right. More than anything, I’m coming around to Philip John Fleck as a real guy and not a Saturday morning cartoon character. He got his second win over Wisconsin Saturday, and is now the proud owner of approximately one-third of Minnesota’s wins over the Badgers in my lifetime.

Furthermore, Minnesota was decimated by running back injuries and defensive issues and losing to Bowling Green, but clawed its way to respectability.

And most importantly, Pajamas Fleck has never beat Kirk Ferentz, which makes it a whole lot easier to write all those things about him.

Go Gophers!!

Good on you, Gophers, for beating your rivals. Bad on you for losing weird games earlier in the season and not heading to Indianapolis instead of Iowa.

Last week: No. 7

Last game: 23-13 win over Wisconsin

Next game: TBD bowl game

The Gophers were short of the Big Ten Championship Game again, but they earned a huge win over Wisconsin to conclude the regular season. It wipes out a bad loss to Bowling Green and knocks the Badgers down a bit. PJ Fleck continued to keep the team steady, but he’s still lacking a conference title when they’ve had multiple opportunities. The good news is they get Tanner Morgan and Mohamed Ibrahim back next season.

Go Gophers!!

4. Minnesota (8-4)
Last Week’s Ranking: #8

The best defense on the field wore maroon and gold as the Gophers stop Wisconsin freshman phenom Braelon Allen who only totaled 47 yards on the ground. Minnesota gets the Axe for the second time in four years.

Go Gophers!!

1. Michigan- beat OSU and should pummel Iowa. think they get smoked in the playoff though much of this depends on how it shakes out who makes it. the key to their season is if Hutchinson and Ojabo can continue to destroy teams' passing attacks, as we saw what happens vs Mich State when they don't
2. OSU- would've destroyed the rest of the league. Flawed team all year but the talent is great. Probably will kill whoever they draw in bowl season if their guys all play

Big Gap

3. Iowa- horrid offense, great defense. We absolutely missed our chance
4. Mich St- only losses against pretty good teams and one highlight win put them here.
5. Minnesota- average offense, great defense. Some curious losses with a few good wins
6. Penn State- win over WI lands them here. Weird loss to Illinois here who punched above their weight class a couple of times on the year
7. Wisconsin- horrible QB play will get you in trouble when you can't run the ball as we well know
8. Purdue- pretty fun offense this year; should be interesting to watch in the west next year
9. Illinois- some good wins, some bad losses. overall a mediocre team that just missed bowling

Small gap

10. Nebraska- good teams find a way to win some of those games

Moderate Gap

11. MD- somehow they're going bowling?
12. Rutgers- slowly improving but going to have a real hard time making headway in the east
13. Indiana- yikes season. was last year an illusion or did injuries do them in? Allen will be looking to erase this year
14. NW- holy fuck for bad all year. when your best win is over rutgers, that's a tough year
