I keep hearing about how Fisch changed his throwing motion, complaints about the O-line,
complaints about the WR's bull. Truth is Weber's feet are a mess, he has had poor footwork from the beginning, always has. Even when he was red-shirting, the guy has never really corrected the poor footwork, tendancies of throwing off balance, a lot of stuff off the back foot, jumping around and lunging forward when throwing. He does not have a bad throwing form, up top he is good, in fact he has as about as strong an arm as you need for a QB. If he could correct his feet you would see marked improvement.
I don't know if this has been coaching or if it is a byproduct of running for his life, having been hit so much, but this QB does a really poor job of following through and setting his feet properly. I'm not an expert but If I can pick out the poor mechanics of his feet, and how consistently off center or out of allingnment they are, if I can see how it leads to the throws into the turf, and short armed, or cutting off his arm because the feet are out of wack, with rolling off the ball of the back foot, the jumping stuff, then others must see it. This is where having a QB coach on staff that has actually been a QB would have corrected this type of footwork thing a long time ago. Peterson, Dunbar, Fisch not one of the coordinators have played QB and these three gentleman have been Weber's QB coaches. This Weber guy can play QB, he is more than capable but he needs a QB coach that can coach him up and the other QB's up to have good feet and footwork and how important that is in having consistent footwork that it becomes second nature. Having a QB coach to concentrate on improving the QB play is almost not just a want it is a need. Having an O-line coach that could get his line to drive block would help also so that there would be a resemblence to a running game.
I called for a new O-staff earlier in another post but after taking a breath about that I am wrong, They do not need a new O staff, they do need help at QB coaching and with the O-line. Going 4 games in a row where your first team offense does not score a touchdown and cannot move the football get's to everyone, this time the last month has been very grating on the nerves of everyone. Thia wheel is broken and needs a little more than grease, the system needs a breakdown and a full overhaul of what has been going wrong. I trust the coaches are working hard at this as I hear they have been putting in a lot of time to try and correct this mess.

It's funny you mention that. I was thinking about a program that was talking about QB's a few years ago and they showed this coach braking down and retraining Kerry Collins. Much of it had to do with his footwork and sprinting back to his setup. I could see where Weber and Gray could benefit from such work.

agree - but it is not all on him

I got a wild hair and drove down to Iowa City this morning and back tonight with my kid - left at 6:00 am and just got home - no tickets - scalped a pair so we had seats up high - what I clearly noticed was that his receivers are not running routes that allow him to deliver the ball - They are slow off the line, they do not make sharp cuts - they are slow to develop and what is most concerning is that often times they quit on the rout - there was a play in the third quarter where it was supposed to be a pass out to the flat - the defensive end (who played a strong game) sniffed it out so Weber had to look elsewhere - each of the other three receivers and quit on their routes so he had no one to throw to - in addition, they drop balls frequently - there was even they play in the first half when the two of them ran into each other jarring the ball loose - this is a poorly coached bunch and it shows - Weber is a by product of this - and his game is also off - he had Tow-Arnett wide open with an open field and he threw it at his feet - he is making poor decisions and the thing is out of control - In addition to Fish - I would be putting big time heat on the receivers coach - this group is hopeless at the moment - On our last offensive play the 4th and long Stoudemire alligator armed the throw because he knew he was going to get hit - granted the ball was high but he did not bother to go after it - there is no leadership and no chemistry on this offinse

So agree. I can't tell whether I should blame the coach's for not teaching the wide receivers how to run routes, or the wide receivers themselves for being lazy. Something has to change there. It might be because we lost our #1 and #2 wide receivers, but the ones we have now just don't even seem to want to be out there, and they definitely short-arm a ton of passes because they don't want to get hit.

More than anything, this offense needs some quality control. For any number of reasons, they don't execute. It seems that way too often, we have foolish penalties (illegal shifts, false starts) or poor route running. Then when those items aren't the issue, we have Weber throwing inaccurately, or receivers dropping balls. Our plays only work when all those little pieces are put together properly. And for this offense that is a rarity. It seems to me that Fisch has a lack of attention for the fundamental details of running an effective offense.
