There were 6 key plays that turned the tide for the Badgers. We reverse those plays we win the game. Wisconsin loses I believe 21-22 seniors; including their mainstay on defense Borland and their top offensive player White. I wouldn't be surprised to see Gordon declare for the NFL . Let's
how Andersen does playing with his " own " money and not BB's. Normally I don't throw the gauntlet down a season before, but I feel it . So much so, my son and I will make the trek to Madison. ( Mrs. Flywheel won't go because of their fans) Looking forward to seeing us capture the axe on their turf. Haven't been to a football game there since the late 90's.

also lose their top 2 Receivers Abrederis and Pedersen the TE, i don't know if anybody on Wisconsin caught a pass besides those two on saturday

Every year the Badgers are "supposed" to take a step back and every year they find the players they need somewhere. That program is a well-oiled machine, I wouldn't bet against them being dang good again next year. Now, will the Gophers be able to continue to improve and close the gap further? I hope so, because if Wisconsin wins next year it will tie the all-time series up.

No offense, but this reminded me of the FB coach at my HS. (we weren't very good.) After every game, he would come into the locker room and make the same speech: "If you take those 3 or 4 big plays away from the other team, we were right in the game."

The point is, you can't take those plays away. Those plays (fumbles, penalties, etc) are what decide games.

I would love to see the Gophs beat WI next year, but to win that game on the road, the Gophers will have to be the team that makes those plays - not the team going "if, if, if if" after the game.

Actually just 2, I think. Nelson doesn't overthrow Maxx in the 4th and he scores. Nelson hits Fruechte a split second earlier in the corner of the end zone...Gophers win 21-20. I don't think either play is asking much. Our QBs have missed a sure TD in all three losses. These experiences can lead to great things.

dude, you posted almost the exact same thing last year...
At least Mr. Flywheel isn't giving up! Kudos!

Bingo (others in this thread have made the same point). Its a long time until next year and a lot of things could change or stay the same (Wisconsin still being good) between now and then.

I very much doubt that. He would've probably been tackled somewhere around the 10.

Likely. But if Maxx doesn't have to contort his body and can catch the ball in stride he's probably a step or two closer the to end zone. Ultimately, it does not matter, we didn't make the play and we lost. On to Michigan State. Go Gophers!

You are right about him scoring, but seeing that picture hurts. Boy was that throw bad.

This point has already been made, but it seems like we annually predict Wisconsin's downfall in both football and basketball, but I believe in my 8 years of undergrad and grad school (this is my last year as a student), we have not finished with a better B1G record in either sport yet (and have not beaten them once in football). This is becoming infuriating, and really needs to change.

and how about the pick six that wisconsin dropped and the 50 yard pass to abberderis that hit him right in the hands and the missed field goal due to a bad snap? all were cold weather related and wisconsin left far more points on the board than minnesota and it wasn't close.

We're at least closing the gap. I'm not ready to predict a win next year, but I'm expecting this rivalry to at least be competitive for a long time now, and I do think we'll have the axe back sooner rather than later.

i agree but there was also another play with Wolitarsky in the end zone where if Nelson puts a tad more juice on it he scores and then in the following drive with Isaac freuchte in the end zone, if Nelson throws it slightly more to the left he makes the catch for a TD, thats only two plays were we could have taken the lead 21-20, only TWO, and thats with all of the other drops/non PI calls/ turnovers that we had, we are really not that far off from beating these guys and being a great football taem

I think the series has become more competitive again... which is good for everyone involved with it. Ruppert... if you're coming to Madison, I'll buy you a beer.. let me know if you're serious about attending. I'm just curious as to who this person is that loathes another institution to such a high degree. To me, it's worth the cost of an adult beverage.

Have your wallet ready because I think most people loathe your institution that much. Ruppert is just a tool about it.

WRs need to make a play on those balls. Need to readjust the body and help the QB out.

The Badgers do lose a lot of Seniors but I think they are deep and experienced at most positions. Their 2 deep has a lot of PT.

They only lose one OL and their backups will all be back. Gordon is a stud and Stave is just a Soph. They have two good TE's coming back. They will take a hit on the DL and LB but they will have 3 or their DB's back.

Don't write the Badgers off just yet especially at home. The Gophers have to keep on building.

Lots of things will happen between now and Nov 29, 2014.

I honestly feel we'll win next year in Madison, (I didn't have that feeling this year, even leading right up to the game).
Yet, I am so proud and....surprised by the strides this team made this year.
We lose some very good players, Hageman, Vereen etc. but our entire OL returns, both QBs return, we have solid playmakers
on offense all returning (minus Engel) in Wolitarsky, Jones, Maye, Williams & Williams and Cobb, add in Harbison, Carter, Wozniak, Edwards and hopefully Jeff Jones.
I can honestly see Fruechte turning into the Derrick Engel/AJ Barker (forgive me) type next year.

Our Defense is bringing back a lot of key players, both our safeties and our CBs will include Murray (who's turning into a B1G best) and Wells. We lose Manuel
and Hill (who werent exactly the anchor of our D), but got good players to fill in, Laster, Lynn, returning Campbell and Wilson. We lose Optimus Prime, but
return TC, the Ekpe bros, Keith, Perry and Hinojosa, who still could be very good (he definitely has the 'want to', doing all the right things to get back on the
roster).

Does Andre McDonald grow up and return? Does Harbison and Rodrick Williams stay out of trouble? Does Peter Westerhaus and Grayson Levine break out?
How bout Nick Rallis? Does Jon Christenson fully heal? Yes, some big question marks, but lot's of GREAT optimism.

I'd really like to see how this recruiting class finishes, we've been shown more than once, that a few 2 star recruits can become game changers
(Theiran Cochran, Derrick Wells, Eric Murray, Damien Wilson, Ben Lauer, Cedric Thompson)

The game is a year away. We do not know if the state of Wisconsin will be around. Goldy could go crazy and cause a big sink hole. The world would be a better place.
