19-60 from the field, 1-14 from 3 and 19 turnovers. If we had played a top ten team we would have lost by 40. Wisconsin will be very hungry next Wednesday and they play better half court defense than Illinois in my opinion. Even by some miracle we do make it to the dance, it will be a double-digit first round loss, exciting.

Sorry, that distinction belongs to the 06-07 unit.

Tubby has never experienced a Double Digit 1st round NCAA loss - in 14 NCAA appearances, he has just 1 first round L (by 3 pts).

Minnesota played pretty well but shot poorly tonight.

2 W and maybe 1 W in Big 10 tourney = NCAA bid.

I am beginning to believe that the sole purpose of your posts is to make the most outlandish, over-reactive comments and then hope for responses.

Well, I fell for it.

In my opinion, we are still looking fine. We may very well end up 10-8 in conference play. Two years ago 10-8 in conference play would have brought me to my knees in gratitude.

So what if we don't have a dynamic half-court offense at this point. There are a lot of top 20 teams that are less than fluid in the half-court set.

My real reason for responding to your post is that I have a sneaking suspicion that you are, in fact, not a Gopher fan at all. But that you have a license plate frame on the rear of your car that says "University of Wisconsin Alumni".

Well, there is a reason he only shows up after losses after all.....

You can pretty much count on this "fan" showing up after losses and being nowhere to be found after wins. Therefore, if they win the next two home games, we won't have to deal with more "manic" posts.

But hey, at least his moniker fits the personality....as absurd as that is.....

Not so fast......

Don't be so quick to judge this poster's passion for our Gophers.

One does not have to be a "troll" to look at things as they are (poor half court offensive displays),and how this team may end up this season.

For those of us who see the glass half full, there are others who look at what we may not want to see (sometimes called reality). Namely, this team is lucky to win if they are slowed down, and half to play half court offense.

Passion is often spoken in frustration!

So you're saying the reality is that the gophers are indeed "the worst half court team in the history of basketball?" I can take some constructive analysis, but this thread was just ridiculous. Along with 90% of his other threads.

Alot of the posts on these forums are, of course, subjective. They are often opinion; like saying "along with 90% of his other threads") or they are just meant to "stir the pot".

If one only takes them to always be literal statements that cannot be much fun (my opinion).
You can take them for what they are worth.

Is this not what makes a forum like this fun?

Go Gophers!!!!

>>We have to be the worst half court team in the history of basketball!<<

We looked a lot better before Big Ten defenses showed up on our schedule.

As some of us have been saying all along, we have a very nice roster of role models, but we lack go-to offensive firepower. Tubby will change that.

Go Gophers!!!!

Fun for some maybe. For others, just plain dumb and annoying....

It's called Hyperbole

"We have to be the worst half court team in the history of basketball!"

Hyperbole: an extravagant statement or figure of speech not intended to be taken literally, as “to wait an eternity.”

It has got to be pretty obvious to anyone who watches much Gopher basketball that this is one of the least offensively talented teams they've ever had. The Illinois game was without question the biggest show of offensive ineptitude that I can remember ever watching from a high major team.

That said, there are a lot of reasons from optimism for the future.

Like Tubby said, they just don't have anyone that can create points by themselves. When the shooting goes south there is not the go to person. Sampson shooting from the arc doesn't do it. Hopefully White will made a difference next year. They could use someone like Reichart this year.

Knowing this fact, what was/is the plan for offensive production?

Reminiscent of Monson offense, based on past comments.

I suspect that Tubby's plan was to get more (and consistent) scoring from Westbrook, Hoffarber and Bostick. Based on what Tubby has said in post-game interviews, another element of the plan was to get the ball inside more to Sampson and Iverson (or either Smith or DJ when they're playing in the paint in lieu of one of the two Freshmen).

Is it a bad plan or bad execution? I suspect we have a range of opinions on that.
