I covered last year's Iron Bowl, as I have games in every Big Ten Stadium. I am looking forward to covering the Big Ten opener at the Bank as well. Penn State is, by far, the best overall gameday experience in the Big Ten. It still wasn't in the same league as I saw in Tuscaloosa last November.
One at Birmingham, and one at (the first one) Auburn. They were, of course, packed, and a lot of pre-game activities at both. My problem with them is the overall Douche baggery of the fans. 3 hours of Billy Joe Jim Bobs going after me and my friend because we were not in their school's colors, (which I might point out, we werer not in the other school's colors either), gets really old quick. If I had media credentials and did not have to sit with that, I would have had a more favorable reactions as well. Besides, Alabama's claim to any and every National Championship, because some Geologist sitting in their basement named them so, was laughable, at best and a real sign of a major inferiority complex, at worst. The games I was in Tuscaloosa for, were some what better, and being there in 1996 to see them lose to Vanderbilt, was a real education. That is a crowd that turned very quickly when things went bad. All and all, I think being somewhat removed from these kinds of things puts them in a better light.
Of all the places I have been, Clemson is where I was treated best, for not being a fan of the home team, of course my brother's wife graduated from there, so they were both in head to toe Orange and Purple, might have helped.
We discussed traditions eariler on another thread and the idea that the team runs out one end of the stadium, hops a bus, sits on it for a few moments, drives around to the other end of the stadium, sits there for a few more, then runs down the hill and in to the stadium, was really kind of phony.
