This is for all of the Becky trolls. We are going to have it so good compared to the craphole that you play in. Go away and cry, cry to someone else. Kinnick is better than that camp you play in also. Go cry on the Iowa board.

Go Gophers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just drove by Camp Randall for the first time last week. Needless to say I was unimpressed by the exterior and surroundings.

On the other hand, while I am no Badger fan by any means, I'm going to repeat here what I said to my friends as we drove by the ugly stadium in Madison: there is a LOT more to a stadium than just the way it looks empty on non-game days. While our stadium is obviously newer, nicer, cooler, prettier, etc., our fans have not yet proven if TCF will be the whole package, including atmosphere, fan support, etc. that Camp Randall has been for the Badgers in recent years.

No doubt I'd take TCF over the Camp anyday..but I'm just saying there is more to a stadium than newness and appearance. Someday there will be a newer and nicer stadium somewhere in the Big Ten and we need to be sure there is more to TCF than just a high price tag and big scoreboard. Let's build the kind of tradition, fan support, etc. that Camp Randall has and then we will truly have the whole package!

This is an ill advised path to take if you want to bash the Badgers, Camp Randall is a known quantity and is among the best experiences in college football. It doesn't have the amenities that TCF will have (probably no other stadium in the country does simply because TCF is new), but it is an imposing structure with great atmosphere and a ton of history. This is an argument Gopher fans will lose, especially since we haven't even played a down in the new place yet.

Define "good". Recently, entire classes of recruits have graduated or otherwise used up or lost their eligibility without ever touching the Axe. The trophy case which is meant to hold all of the rivalry game trophies has now been empty for going on two years. Not a single trinket to put on display next to Bronko's cleats and the ticket stub from the last Rose Bowl appearance almost 50 years ago. That's "darn good"

Oh goodie myles has come over here now...

I had a bad feeling this thread would bring in the badger trolls...

Only time until the rest of the bucky troll army comes...Our good friend pantherhawk is doing his old smear the gophers work again and posted this over on buckyville...

Dude got serious issues...

Hey troll, its obvious from reading the OP that he was talking about the stadium amenities yet you seem to live in a fantasy world where you interpret his post as something about rivalry games. While I agree we need to see what kind of atmosphere our fans can develop in the new stadium before spouting off about it, there is no doubt the amenities in the stadium will be second to none. Oh, and by the way, go back to your becky board where you can play with that d-bag Pantherhawk.

I was a Gopher fan trapped in Madison for 12 years. I had season tickets for UW football for 10 years. While I was never a Badger fan, I had a great time tailgating with the same group of people. The game day atmosphere in and outside of Camp Randall is fantastic. I hope we can duplicate or exceed that atmosphere at The Bank.

Camp Randall is one of the better places to witness a college football event. I've been there 3 times. The stadium has a great atmosphere and the party atmosphere is tough to duplicate. The fans can leave something to be desired as they will harass you and shout vulger chants towards you...I would never bring my kids there.

Go Gophers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've been to all but two Big Ten stadiums.....Wisconsin by far was the most fun. Hope we can duplicate the experience.

I've been to Madison for a few games as well, and it's a great college football atmosphere. Further, Camp Randall is a stadium full of history and tradition. It's not a stadium I would go around bashing...and it's not a place we, or anybody else, for that matter, has had an easy time winning in.

Attack things that can be attacked (and there are many) but Camp Randall is not one of them.

This is a losing battle. I hope the atmosphere and crowd involvement at TCF is even half as good as Camp Randall. Exterior aesthetics mean very little to the gameday experience. Look at Beaver Stadium over in PA. Its hideous, but the PSU gameday atmosphere is second to none (especially at night).

for only the last few decades...

Before BA, you could fire a cannon off and Camp Randle and not hit anyone. The point is, success brought the atmosphere, I think the same can be said for most programs, I'm very hard pressed to name one program who doesn't have much success, but a great out of stadium experience.
I've been to a lot of stadiums in different places in this country, and winning brought the great gameday fun. I was told that Auburn was pretty good, even before the '80's and their greatest success, but only saw it for an Alabama/Auburn game. That doesn't count, because it was the first time Auburn got to host that game. Before that, the games were always in Birmingham.

I covered last year's Iron Bowl, as I have games in every Big Ten Stadium. I am looking forward to covering the Big Ten opener at the Bank as well. Penn State is, by far, the best overall gameday experience in the Big Ten. It still wasn't in the same league as I saw in Tuscaloosa last November.

That's not exactly true. That could be said for the 3 years of the Morton era. If you go back ti the McClain era, UW usually had a pretty full house. Most people seem to think that the stadium was empty before Alvarez took over, but it really only applies to that short period of time when Satan was our HC.

The only problem with Camp Randle stadium is that it is in Wisconsin and Wisconsin plays there.

Game day is great if you like partying with a bunch of sconies...piss drunk retards with no teeth and bad hygiene.

There are plenty of things to rag on about the weasels, but the Camp is not one of them.

I've been to several games there as well, and it is currently my favorite college football stadium (noses out Husky Stadium at Washington).

Hello!!!!!!!!!!

I can bash any becky troll that comes fishing. It is also not a losing battle. If you are into that alcoholic drunken throwing up atmosphere go for it.
That does not make college game day. Are you afraid of these trolls? They are a pushover. It was bad enough that I had to go down 94 to Wrigley Field last weekend. The only good thing was the relief to be had. I took a big dump near Tomah.

Go Gophers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had a good time in Madision the couple of times I've been there but I do think they dropped the ball on their suite/club addition. No outdoor seating for the suites or club? They are all sitting in there behind the glass...it just doesn't seem right. And I don't think the architect remembered that there was more than 1 side to their addition. The backside is just metal panel....no windows, nothing. Either they ran out of money or it was a 1st year architecture school project.
Now compare that with what Michigan is doing.

I don't think anyone here would trade Williams Arena for Kohl Center and I'm sure when the shoe is on the other foot, they wouldn't trade their Camp Randal for TCF.

What in the sam hell does this have to do with anything. This is about the one or two things that Becky is not ripable for. If all you are doing is fishing for trolls then I guess you got it but take it elsewhere. The less trolls the better.

I have attended Camp Randle 4 times

All pre-BA, 1 during the morton era, which by far the emptiest. the three during McClain, were not a ton better, Wis had good season ticket bases those years but the actual turnout was 60% full or less. Very Metrodome like, good student numbers, solid turnouts in the expensive seasons, very poor everywhere else. I just know what I saw, and the tailgating was about the same as for games at Memorial, or Vikings games at the Met. Nothing compared to what is now, which was the real point.

I worked at Camp Randall during my teen years selling cokes and hot dogs/peanuts. I agree, it is a great place to watch a game.
The repainted seat numbers kinda suck cause they pack more people into the stadium than is comfortable. Oh yeah, and if you are taller than 6'3" the concourses on the Shell side can be brutal on your drunken forehead. Makes me even more anxious for TCF to open.

I saw two Iron Bowls while in Alabama

I covered last year's Iron Bowl, as I have games in every Big Ten Stadium. I am looking forward to covering the Big Ten opener at the Bank as well. Penn State is, by far, the best overall gameday experience in the Big Ten. It still wasn't in the same league as I saw in Tuscaloosa last November.

One at Birmingham, and one at (the first one) Auburn. They were, of course, packed, and a lot of pre-game activities at both. My problem with them is the overall Douche baggery of the fans. 3 hours of Billy Joe Jim Bobs going after me and my friend because we were not in their school's colors, (which I might point out, we werer not in the other school's colors either), gets really old quick. If I had media credentials and did not have to sit with that, I would have had a more favorable reactions as well. Besides, Alabama's claim to any and every National Championship, because some Geologist sitting in their basement named them so, was laughable, at best and a real sign of a major inferiority complex, at worst. The games I was in Tuscaloosa for, were some what better, and being there in 1996 to see them lose to Vanderbilt, was a real education. That is a crowd that turned very quickly when things went bad. All and all, I think being somewhat removed from these kinds of things puts them in a better light.

Of all the places I have been, Clemson is where I was treated best, for not being a fan of the home team, of course my brother's wife graduated from there, so they were both in head to toe Orange and Purple, might have helped.

We discussed traditions eariler on another thread and the idea that the team runs out one end of the stadium, hops a bus, sits on it for a few moments, drives around to the other end of the stadium, sits there for a few more, then runs down the hill and in to the stadium, was really kind of phony.

My take on it is this: When it is full it is pretty impressive. The stadium itself also has a lot of history (some good, some bad) and the atmosphere is pretty good (just Google "best college football atmosphere" and Wisc is typically right up there). And I think the OP's point was talking about the physical structure/amenities rather than atmosphere, fan base, etc and maybe to try to bait some Becky posters.

That being said, here are my complaints about Camp Randall
- Student section - same problem as ours. I see a lot of WI games on TV and the students aren't in their seats (like 25% of them) until the end of the 1st quarter. General fans also were leaving very early in the PSU loss last year. I though Wisc fans were the greatest and stick around to support their team?
- WI fans claiming how long it has been around. Don't get me wrong - tons of history at "Camp Randall" stadium. However, it was a 10k concrete stadium from 1917 until 1955 when it was upgraded to ~55k. The stadium as we know it today with the second deck has only been around since 1966, not 1917. Remember, Memorial Stadium was built as a 50k+ stadium in the 20s. Unfortunately, our regents were stupid enough to demolish it.
- Other "traditions" - while "Jump Around" is kinda impressive, it has only been around since 1998. Don't act like it is some 50-year tradition.
- I agree Camp Randall is not much to look at from the outside. Even on the inside the bland concrete and mediocre concourses don't do much for the eye. However, as stated in other posts, we have no way to compete with the atmosphere as of now (who knows, starting this year maybe we will). Also, they would not trade the Kohl for Williams (for whatever reason) but also probably won't trade CR for TCF Bank. Despite how well done TCF is, our rival fans will find many reasons to nitpick (not too different than mine) our stadium and how "lame" it is.

A fair comparison would be the town baseball league equivalent. A hometown league for guys who played HS football and at some college level.
Not hitting the link was probably a good idea cuz that would have tallied a hit and given the IFL commisioner some hope that ticket sales would increase.
