With Florida and Miami looking for established head coaches, word is everyone who is likely to be on a list for a good job are waiting to see what happens. With both of these jobs considered higher profile than other vacancies (certainly Florida is in the top 3 jobs in the country), guys like Edsall, Sumlin, etc. are all waiting. While they likely will not get those jobs, the hires will create some interesting vacancies. So if you have a vacancy right now, you'll probably not be able to fill it with a high quality coach until the dominos line up. And that can hurt recruiting, etc.

Glad we got Kill when we did!
 


I agree we could have lost Jerry Kill to Florida or Miami.

Unless you think Kill would have been considered by Florida or Miami, I don't think it mattered much. If we offered Kill the job today, do you think he would have said "Thanks, Joel, but I'm going to hold off in case Florida calls me"?

No, but say Florida hires Edsall, well then UConn is looking for a coach ... maybe that coach is Kill. Maybe Sumlin goes to Miami, well now Houston needs a coach. Maybe that coach is Kill. Maybe Florida hires strong, now Louisville needs a coach, etc. And lastly, recruiting is much easier for us now that we have a coach, than it would be for say UConn having no coach in 2 weeks.
