Wasn't this our best season since 2003?

I would say it was not

But I value regular season wins more than bowl wins so I am comfortable saying I value Jerry Kills 2014 season more than this one largely due to finishing essentially 4th in the big ten rather than a bowl win, extra win this year

Curious to see what people value more between conference standings, quality wins, total wins, etc

This may have been our 4th best season since 1990 though.

I with you on the 2014 comparison, but both that year and this one had some really ugly wins.

We were 5-3 in 2014, 5-4 this season. I guess you can make an argument for 2014, but a bowl win is the end result. When you have a similar conference record, I would take a bowl win over a loss every day. Would you rather have a 9-0 conference season or an 8-1 conference season with a Rose Bowl win?

To me that would depend on if 8-1 was good enough to win the conference. If it was, probably the second one.

I guess differing opinions, but I would much rather be win a prestigious bowl than win the conference. Bowl games cap off your season and give you a ranking after everything is said and done.

I would much rather win the conference.

I would agree 2014 was more impressive but 7 wins against P5 teams this year is still impressive even if there isnt a regular season "Signature Win"

I would much rather win the conference.

That's fair, I'd rather be Penn State (if they had won the Rose Bowl) than Ohio State. End the season on a positive note.

Total wins is all that matters to me. Also, unlike in 2014, we won every game we were suppose to and didn't get blown out in any games. Winning every game your suppose to win is a pretty big feat to me and something that is much easier said than done. In 2014 we had some impressive wins but we also lost to Illinois and that was extremely disappointing to me. We didn't have any games like that in 2016 and we didn't get blown out in any games unlike in 2014 against TCU. That blowout loss was also pretty disappointing to me. When was the last time the gophers won every single game they were suppose to win? So yes, this year was definitely better than in 2014.

Me too! Penn State won the conference!

Didn't realize that, fair enough. But you get my point!

2014 was a better year, but 2016 was a close second best season in 13 years, and that's nothing to sneeze at.

It is all relative to the opposition.
Here is one metric (you can choose others):

Wins versus bowl teams:
2016: 4
2015: 3
2014: 2
2013: 2
2012: 2
2011: 2
2010: 3
2009: 3
2008: 2
2007: 0
2006: 1
2005: 3
2004: 2
2003: 4
2002: 2
2001: 1
2000: 1
1999: 2

By this metric Jerry Kill and Tim Brewster are pretty much equals

Yes. Jer needed to win that bowl game for it to be better than this year.
