If so, I wouldn't be surprised if he's introduced as our new coach at the end of the season.

Edit: On another topic, I read that Maturi met with all the coaches individually after the game. I wonder if certain coaches were told not worry about their job status at the end of the season.

Maturi coached Chris Farley too.
Perhaps Matt Foley can coach us from the great beyond:cool:

On a serious note, I had not read that Maturi met with all the coaches individually after the game. Where did you read that? Did the source give any further insight?

You mean Maturi was telling some of the coaches if things don't turn around, they are going to be living in a van down by the river?

He was no doubt trying to get some insights as to what is really going on with the program in general-most probably towed the line and defended brew but you never know......the emperor clearly has no clothes so it would not surprise me if some very interesting info, which may be used against him later, was passed joel's way by one of the troops

I would imagine so too. The wheels really came off the brew crew on Saturday. I can't remember which game I gave up on Gutekunst, but I do remember being at the WI game in '91 and rooting for the badgers in the back of my mind. I regret it now, which is why I won't root against the team this time around.

I was looking in the media guide yesterday. I was looking at the Joe Salem's seasons. He started out ok, but the wheels really fell off the wagon, not in the 1983 season, but in the 1982 season. We started that season out 3-0, with a 57-3 win over Ohio, a 36-10 win over Purdue and a 41-11 win over Washington State. Things were looking good.

Then we lose eight straight. The first loss was a 42-24 loss at home to 19th ranked Illinois. Only one of the losses was within one score, a 16-21 loss to Iowa. Only one other loss was within two scores, a 10 point loss to Northwestern. The losses were by 18, 10, 19, 5, 38, 25, 19 and 24 points.

The wheels had fallen off the wagon, it was a prelude to the 1983 disaster. If this our 1982? This remains to be seen. One game can't quite tell you if the coach has lost control. But if it is, we can't afford another 1983.

Chryst would have been a far better choice than Brewster. But Joel Maturi can not be allowed to have any say in who replaces Brewster this winter. Allowing him to choose the next football coach after what has happened would be beyond belief.

It seems like people want someone with some head coaching experience, Chryst doesn't fit that model.

Isn't Chryst struggling to get one of the most talented offensive lines in the country with a potential Heisman candidate to finish?

Christ! (pun intended)

I hear you. If we are going to choose a Chryst to lead our program I definitely prefer Jesus.

Like it or not, Maturi is going to pick the next coach. Maturi is not getting fired, the President is retiring and thus under no pressure. Bruininks want to have the next President pick the next AD, so Maturi will be making the decision.

Maturi was a football coach? Maybe he can put the headset on and lead us to the promised land?

George Chryst (Paul's dad) hired Joel Maturi at Madison Edgewood High School. George is a legend of a guy. Left Edgewood to be an assistant at the UW. Joel coached Rick Chyrst (former commissioner of the MAC) and Jeep Chryst (last I heard he was a position Carolina Panthers's TE coach). By the time Paul was nearing high school, George became the head coach of UW-Platteville, where he was AD and Head Football Coach (he hired Bo Ryan to UW-P). Paul played at Platteville HS. Had he stayed in Madison, by the time he was in high school, Joel had given up football to stay coaching basketball and pretty much run the high school.

Incidentally, Joel told Bo Ryan that when he got a D-I AD job, he was going to hire him. It didn't work out at Denver though. I think it was mutual. Had Ryan not gotten the UW job, he would have been Joel's hire at Minnesota for sure.

I love people questioning Paul's ability to get the UW offense playing well. The UNLV game was utter dominance save for two turnovers. And San Jose followed a similar manner - early season hiccups that you guys know all too well thanks to South Dakota smoking your squad. You guys should be wetting your pants at the prospect of Chryst being a possibility.

I certainly think Chryst would be a relatively painless transition on offense in terms of our young personnel. Certainly what Tim Davis and Horton would like our offense to look like and what Paul Chryst would try to install aren't horrible divergent so there would be that. Short of Gray, there is hardly a plethora of spread offense type players in the ol' cupboard.

Could we get Chryst away from his Alma Mater? Are we going to go for somebody with no head coaching experience? I think the pendulum is swinging the other way. We tried the upcoming assistant coach. Now I think we will end up pursuing a head coach from a lower level / non-BCS AQ'd conference or if available the power conference washout. I tend to prefer the coordinator from a power conference, but neither is sure bet.

I think you may see the boosters get more involved in the hire this time ala Lou Holtz. I sure hope someone other than Maturi gets involved.

With a new President this year, and a new AD next, Maturi just might let it be the Next AD's problem. It all depends on if Brewster can rally the team and win a few games. I'm betting that short of a disaster Brewster stays. After last week I can see where Maturi might have to act.

Adults in Minnesota don't wet their pants.

Yes. Bielema is younger than Chryst and he's Alvarez's golden boy. Chryst has no chance to ever be badger coach unless Bielema is fired while Chryst is coaching somewhere else or he goes to nfl.

I think Brewster is done unless he wins a ton of games and big ones at that. Maturi is sticking around another couple years just to transition the AD while the new president gets acclimated. It would be irresponsible to leave him as coach just because you want to wait around for the new regime.
