I was checking out the Scout site, and they had a story on this guy (via Iowa's site I believe). Pitchford was a DePaul recruit, but (after a lengthy process) got out of his LOI due to a coaching change. He was a 2010 recruit and this article suggests he chose DePaul over Minnesota and Michigan (funniest thing is that he had "interest" from Arizona State...ASU offers everybody, but they don't offer a kid who both Minnesota and Michigan allegedly offered?) http://www.zagsblog.com/2010/05/29/6-10-pitchford-seeking-release-from-depaul/

Any ways, are we in on Pitchford again? Seems very thin, but has impressive athleticism...might give Rodney a run in the dunk contest: http://www.ballislife.com/video/walter-pitchford-with-a-crazy

The one article was written in May of last year. Is he still uncommitted? If so, what has he been doing for the past several months?

Yes, Gophers have shown renewed interest in Pitchford.

He is at Summit Christian Academy in Michigan in their post-grad program.

He is a kid that has moved around A TON. Hopefully our crime rate in the Twin Cities isn't too much for him - he cited the crime in Chicago as a reason he wanted out of his commitment to DePaul :/

PS - a month ago his team played St. John's Military (Delafield, WI, which has a new post-grad program this year)... reportedly 6'9" Martin Breunig from Germany, a guy Marquette has looked at, outdueled him... Pitchford could be very good.. but will he ever realize his potential?

Do you remember Eddie Lee at SJM in mid 1970's? Came to UC in 1976 and had a nice career as a Bearcat. NYC native, I think he was.

I'm familiar with him, certainly don't remember him playing at the time (I'm not quite up there in years with you). We talked about him briefly in a Chim Kadima thread awhile back:

Better than Trevon Hughes?!?! j/k... Yeah.. I think Lee was actually coached by Brian Richert's dad (Gary) back in the 70s... The story I recall was that Gary became friends with a New York guy that was a pal of Al's... and that created a pipeline between NY and Delafield, WI of all places.. I'm interested to see what types of players they're able to bring into this post-grad program and how they fare against some of the east coast preps..

The German kid looks interesting.

More on the Marquette connection (for me). Retired ex-MU Prez Fr Bob Wild SJ taught me Latin in HS (as a Jesuit scholastic at Cincy St X HS).

Yeah, I recall you telling me that.. he's been around for awhile... although he isn't quite retired yet -- still another half a year with him at the helm. February 19th (hosting Seton Hall) is Father Wild appreciation night... and they are giving out bobbleheads!! He became President during my time on campus.. pretty good run.

He was kind enough to get me GREAT tickets (I paid for them, not free) to NCAA games last March.

I give him grief about Golden Eagles (not Warriors) every I see him.
