Wonder if you saw during Vikes broadcast - that the Vikes are giving a scholarship not to the the U - but to UND! nice support for the state's home university Vikings!

I noticed that too.. What's up with that? You'd think they'd do something with TheU considering they shoveled out The Bank this past winter for them NOT to play football there.

WTF?
I pick the Gophers to win 6 games this year, the same as the Vikings.

Can it be because UND approached the Vikings to be a TV sponsor for pre-season games?

The Vikings made a donation to the U above the cost of cleaning out and using TCF Bank Stadium last year.

Just another way to spread the love all around the region for lots of Vikings fans and support in North Dakota and surrounding areas. I see nothing wrong with this.

Bingo! The Vikings are the "hometown" team for much of Minnesota, the Dakotas, and Montana. Also, I am guessing the UND sponsor plays a major role. The Vikings made TCF Bank a national stadium after being showcased on Monday Night Football.

I'm sure they do some sort of sponsorship exchange. Happens all the time in the world of sponsorship and advertising. Nothing to see here. On a side note, thanks for the opening door for all the Viking ball lickers to fly in with their Iowa/Wisco like defense of their favorite team.

The Vikes' biggest contribution to the Gophers this year may be stinking up the joint, leaving Twin Cities fans with more time to get into what Kill is up to with the Gophers - and the Gophers may even win more games.

Yeah, they did. And they also 'repped' the Bank on MNF. But all the players did was bitch about how the field wasn't heated. And sadly enough, that's what most Viking fans seen and heard after the game. That is ridiculous. The Vikings, IMO, owe The U more than what they gave for that night.

I don't see anything WRONG per se.. But I did find it odd. It's the MINNESOTA Vikings. Not DAKOTAS Vikings or anything else. I get that there's a lot of purple fans in the Dakotas. And I get that there is obviously some good relationships between UND and the Vikings (like someone mentioned, Sauce is probably the connector).

Still makes it a bit odd in the least.

This is basically a form of advertising. The Vikings are simply trying to increase their customer base by reaching out to the Dakotas. That's all...nothing more, nothing less. No need to read too much into this

If they're trying to expand fanbase, does that mean they are staying? Doesn't matter to me either way.

The Vikings don't need to expand their market into North Dakota, it's already there. What's happening is that UND is trying to expand their market into the Twin Cities. Advertise with the Vikings, and then in exchange, the Vikings provide a scholarship.

As far as TCF, yes, there were complaints about the heated field, but general reaction to the game and the stadium was positive. The people at the stadium seemed to be having a good time with outdoor football.

I don't think it's that big of deal and I understand why the Vikings did it but it kind of rubs me the wrong way at a time when they are asking MN tax payers to build them a stadium. They are giving out a scholarship to a school funded by ND tax payers and asking for a gigantic favor from MN tax payers at the same time.
